Thanks for asking about me! Right now I'm trying to get started on packing for my move next weekend. Of course, my tendency to procrastinate is kicking in! But I'm trying.

I signed the lease on my new apartment today. I was somewhat disappointed when I went to see it. It was smaller than I remembered, and there were at least 5 stains on the carpet in the living room and dining room. One near the doorway is particularly noticeable. It was also a bit dusty. I can clean it of course, but with the stains, it added to the overall feeling of shabbiness. And it didn't help there was a broken beer bottle right in front of the steps where I go upstairs. It just wasn't a very good first impression. At least I only signed a lease for 6 months. Not that it is terrible or anything, far from it! There are several attributes that caused me to choose it. A fireplace with a mantle, new modern appliances, faucets, lights, etc. Very close to my new job (about 10 miles). I think I will like it, but given more time, I think I will be able to find something I like better for the amount of money I'm spending.

Speaking of my new job, its going very well. I still have periods of anxiety, but I think its more due to my past experiences than my actual present situation. On Thursday I did some things incorrectly and was sternly, for them anyway, told to remember not to do it again. I got all upset, but I didn't let them see it. Later I went to my boss and asked her if I was doing okay. She seemed to know I was worried about the mistakes I had made, and reassured me I was doing fine and she had made the same mistakes when she first started. They are really very nice there. Its like working for a family business. It does get stressful at times because this job is somewhat outside of my usual line of work, but its close enough that I can pick it up pretty quickly. Overall I really like it.

I'm very grateful to have a job at all these days! I recently spoke with a former coworker of mine and found out several people got laid off at my old job! This is at the big fancy place I worked at for the last 2 and a half years. If I had stayed I definitely would have been one of the ones laid off. I also found out a friend of mine lost her job and has been substitute teaching for the last few months. Its not much money and they just bought a house last year! And I know a couple of more people who are job hunting (not counting all the ones here!). So lets all hope this economy gets better quick!!!

Thats about it for now. I guess I better get back to packing. Ugh!

Packing sucks!!!

>At least I only signed a lease for 6 months.

That's good TC. & the attributes that you mentioned sound great.

With regard to the really noticeable stain, maybe you can buy a smallish, pretty, or interesting scatter-rug to put over the stain. Maybe even a couple or a few to sort of make a 'theme' of them & also cover some of the other stains. Maybe they could even go with the things that I think I remember you sewed for your now-place.

I think it's great that you went to the boss later that day & checked things out. That way you only had a little while of feeling badly before learning that she'd done the same things!! Is it likely that you'd forget & do them again, or is it more a once you know, that's okay type of thing?

I'm glad you like working there. It sounds nice.

Good luck packing TC

hugs, Kath

Thanks Kath! I don't believe any but the one stain will be noticeable to anyone but me, and its by the front door so it can be covered with a rug. I've just never moved into an apartment that didn't have what looked like brand new carpet - maybe I've just lucked out.

As for work, the mistakes I made are ones that were normal for a new job. Its just that the other job I had, right before the brief temp one I had last, I got let go from for similar types of mistakes. But I always felt they were being unduly harsh, and this just kind of proves it. But that's why I got so upset at first, it felt like it was happening again. So I just have to continue to be thorough and work hard, and try not to let my emotions get in the way.

Well, its back to packing I guess. Thanks for the support!
