new here, not sure where to go...

Posted by nlcrj on December 17, 2008, at 12:34:21

i feel like i have so many issues i dont know where to start or what to do...
ive been kinda jumping around a bit on this site for the last couple hours. this is the first ive ever tried a forum, theyre usually very intimidating to me. anyway, im trying to get off cymbalta and it seems to be wrecking my life, im trying to make a new love work out, but its very strained at the moment. im also a survivor of childhood rape, and i think i need some kind of support and dont know where to look for it. i tried seeing a psych/therapist, and it didnt seem to work very well, esp. with being put on an ssri for bipolar disorder. my insurance doenst cover much, and therapy is too expensive for me to pay outright. i feel very loopy since ive been off meds for the last few days, sorry if im babbling. im looking for someone to talk to, some support. am i in the right place? i dont know where to start, and im tired of my life being so crappy.

Welcome yes can be confusing. My suggestion is first a post on meds board for the med issues. Then a post on psychology for emotional and realtionship issues as relationships very slow board at moment. Will look for your thread. Which is what I meant start a thread on both those board. Good luck. Love Phillipa and lots of great people and info here.

> theyre usually very intimidating to me.

~ ~ Hope Psychobabble won't be intimidating. I've found people here to be a huge support for me.

I've a few comments that might make the whole process of beginning a bit less overwhelming:

I'd say either Meds Board or Withdrawal Board for the 'getting off cymbalta' issue.

I agree with Phillipa regarding Psych Board for relationship & childhood sexual abuse issues, or therapy/therapist issues. If we're posting certain topics that might be really disturbing or trigger others, we write the subject line to include ***Trigger***
(for example)
"Can't tell anyone this ***CSA trigger***"
(CSA means childhood sexual abuse). If there was a self-harm content in the post you can just put ***trigger***.

>I feel very loopy since ive been off meds for the last few days, sorry if im babbling.

~ ~ ~ Hey :-) that's why it's called PsychBABBLE LOL A lot of us do a lot of babbling away here.

>im looking for someone to talk to, some support. am i in the right place?

~ ~ ~ I think you're absolutely in the right place!! Having PB as part of my life has helped me get through some very very trying times since around 2000. I had a break for a few years & then came back for the past, hmm, maybe 2 1/2 years; can't remember.

>i dont know where to start, and im tired of my life being so crappy.

~ ~ ~ I'm sorry your life feels crappy. It sounds like a very difficult time for you right now. I'm sure you'll get some good support here. I'm glad you came to the Social Board to begin with....I usually hang out here - so this means that I got to see your post! I also sometimes go to the Psych Board. From time to time, some of the others, but those are my main 2 boards.

I'm 61, have Seasonal Affective Disorder & what I call "situational depression". I very quickly sort of go into depression if things are really stressful in my life & not going well. I have a 24 yr old son who is living with us right now. For 10 years he's been using various drugs, eventually ending with psychosis & a diagnosis of schizophrenia. I've gotten ongoing good solid, caring support here for the various emergencies & fiascoes that have come up.

See - who's babbling now?? ;-)

Anyway, welcome.

:-) Kath

PS - I notice you have "Babblemail" turned on. That's nice, as people can send you a personal email if they want to.

Also, there's Babblechat - a Live Chat feature, where I'm going right now.
