Some of you know that I work for The Humane Society out of NYC.
I received a notification that Petland buys puppies from pet mills and was asked to speak to local store managers.
I called a store north of here and the manager told me that I am a communist because I questioned him concerning the dogs he sells. He yelled at me and I had to hold the phone out from my ear.
He accused me of not allowing him to do what he wants to do and called me a whiny baby! Yes, I laughed. I couldn't control myself. He smeared every animal rights organization that I have heard of and I suspect that I ruined his day.
Why would a national chain of pet stores employ someone who hates all of the animal rights organizations?
I have a video that clearly shows that the stores buy and sell puppies from the mills. I've been working as a volunteer for THS for about 30 years and we work very hard to have our facts straight.
Now you know my party affiliation. :-) Pat
Here is a link for a story in Minn..My letter listed three stores in Texas. This story can be disturbing to soft hearts. If you can read it, please do and pass the word to avoid Petland.

yes, well, that's some professional and "effective" manner he had there. Name calling and screaming at others has ALWAYS been MY recommended method of interacting, respecting and listening to my fellow man/woman.....
NOT!
Hey, didya give him a PBC?!! ;-)
seriously, thanks for the work you do for those creatures who cannot speak for themselves - and for putting up with the likes of him....

My Brandy came from a puppy mill hence he was part lapso and part poodle. I gave him a wonderful life for his 17. My Daughter does rescue animals. Terrible situation. Thanks for taking care of our babies Fayeroe. Phillipa

Wow, you got a whole load of defensiveness dumped on you. Doesn't sound like you let it ruffle you though. Good for you.

If caring for animals and wanting to see an end to irresponsible breeding makes one a communist - then SIGN ME UP!
I applaud your efforts and join you.
As a card carrying member of the ASPCA, the humane society, the WWF and CWAPCI, the effort to decrease demand for these animals, I think is the key to ending this kind of breeding.
Good job!

Yea! The national news picked up the Petland puppy mill story. I am thrilled to see that others see this as newsworthy and I hope the screws are put on Petland, and others, to help end the puppy mills.
On another note, Larry Craig, Idaho senator, is working behind the scenes to allow the slaughter of wild horses. You might want to drop his office an email and let him know how you feel about that.
Mrs. T. Boone Pickens is buying one million acres of land as a refuge for the mustangs but I don't believe that we can ever drop our vigilance when it comes to politicians. Just because the slaughterhouses in the US are closed doesn't mean that horses can't be shipped to Mexico. With the economy the way it is thousands of horse owners are having to give their pets up because they can no longer afford to feed them.
If your particular choice of animals to help is horses, you can Google Avery Cleveland and find the Black Beauty Ranch (I think that is correct) and help them out. Of course there are refuges for every animal, plus our local shelters.
If you can even buy a bale of good hay and drop it off at your local shelter, it will provide warmth for several animals this winter. Families who have lost their homes are losing their pets and it is putting more strain on our local shelters.
Wow! I'm through now. :-)
p.s.1. don't forget the feral cats. we trap them in my town, a donor pays for spay/neuter, and we put them back into their colonies. One of our colonies now has 20 cats in it. Three families put food and water out for the kitties!!!
2. don't forget the wild birds...food and water. cracked (really small) corn from a feedstore works fine for winter birds.
3. shelter for domestic pets. if you have a neighbor who doesn't provide adequately, offer to buy them a bale of good grass hay for the pet's bed. $9 or $10.

I suppose you could have said something along the lines of
'I am a Marxist-Leninist.
Do not mistake me for those revisionist dogs.'Then again, that might have confused the issue.

I was laughing so much that I couldn't even hear everything that he was accusing me of. I've been called a lot of things, but never a communist. It was kinda sexy.

He might have mistaken Marxism for the brand of a dog food.
