I would have posted to this, but I don't really know the significance of being on Testosterone. I know its a male hormone, but that's it. Do you want to share?

Of course! Well, my testosterone levels have been coming back from the lab at being about "5" (whatever) and normal is between "20-28". So, this testosterone will likely help a) lose a lot of body fat and gain lean muscle b) increase energy and lift depression, and c) (best for last:) +++++increase my sex drive! (I mean, before meds and low testosterone, I had quite the, ah, "drive"..lol.) So now I'll be super-h***y all the time (not like I have a partner to enjoy it with!), and I will be full of drive, happier, etc. My meds (Prozac and Risperdal) where the likely ones that majorly blocked testosterone in me. But, tiny prob, the testosterone may be stirring up my mania a bit. Thing is, I don't really know any woman anymore!
Oh, and hey, to show what a gentleman I am, I was at my brother's place last week, and his married neigbour offered me some "tidings of comfort and joy"..you know?..lol. Thing is, she is married, and she is only 25. My Niece is 25! Well...heck..no the age thing doesn't really bug me. But the *married* thing, YES! Uncle Jay don't play them kind of games! She is a very pretty woman, but I just DON'T go that way! So, that is my BIG dilemma!Peas..

Are you doing this under medical supervision? Did the doctor prescribe it?
In either case, I think you should let your doctor know if you think it might be stirring up mania. Because at this point you have insight into the possibility, but at some point you might lose that insight.
Does your doctor know what's going on?

I don't know the numbers and the references might be different here, but I take a testosterone supplement (Rxd by my doctor) and my experience is

> Does your doctor know what's going on?Hi Dinah:
Yes, both my Endo and GP know what I am on, I mean all in terms of meds. My GP manages my psych meds, has since 2003, and I have done and come so far, then the prior 9 or so years with 2 different pdocs. (I know not *all* pdocs are bad...but believe me, they considered me a pest more then a patient.) The 'hypermanic' bit now seems to be just a small amount within an hour that I apply the gel. Believe me, I've been MANIC, and this is more of a gentle, natural "lift". Don't forget, my testost-gas-tank is like, almost empty! The sexual part, well, hey, I am going to enjoy it (how??..I don't know..ha.) because this is after ummm...5 or so years of..just being this (asexual??) 'blob' with none of the warm feelings that come with ANYTHING remotely close those tender intimate ones.
Thanks for your concern. I also have family members watching over my mood, so there are a couple of back-up resources. I just can't...describe...ohhh..well, nature is wonderful indeed. :)
Thanks,
Jay

> Me too, though it's too long ago to rememberWell, there are a few 'options' to consider with taking your testosterone. First, what way do you take it...gel, capsule, needle? The gel, 10g packets (Max dose) works best for me. There are some fairly good supplements too that can help.
Maybe consider, L-Arginine (as long as you have no heart complications)..it is very widely available here in Canada and recommended by my Pharmacist. A product called "DIM" (Google it) and it is an excellent anti-aromatase(SP???) supplement. Chrysin is also another anti-aromatase supplement. Also, have you read some of the recent research on men's testosterone levels? 'Slightly Aged' (as I call myself...I'll only be 40 next year, but scary for me..lol)males who happen to experience 'Male Menopause' symptoms, like reduced testosterone, show more problems with health, and yes, mental health, then men who have a consistently good testosterone level after 40 and up.
So, we'll see...lol..in the mean time, top up the Testos'...;-)Happy Hormone Ingesting..:)
