Dumbledore is the wise, much loved wizard who was the headmaster of Hogwarts (a wizard school) and the father figure to Harry in the Harry Potter series. He's alot like Gandolf in LOTR. At a book reading JK Rowling (the author) was asked if Dumbledore ever found true love, and in answering this revealed that she always thought of him as gay. The audience of mostly children first gasped and then applauded. I thought it was pretty cool. It gives me hope for our future generations that they're so accepting.

BTW, what does tmi mean?

BTW, this apparently came up when a writer for one of the films put something in a script where Dumbledore related a memory of an old girlfriend. In reviewing the script Rowling struck that reference because of her take on the character's sexuality.

On the site where I first heard of this someone started a thread matchmaking for Dumbledore, and the first response was to pair him with Gandalf...

Meanwhile, this will be just one more reason would-be censors will trot out for keeping the books out of the hands of children. Which I suppose will only increase the appeal... ;)

Exactly! The woman's not dumb, that's for sure. She knows her audience. And I love the fact that the younger generation is so much more tolerant. Not just about this, but everything. Like race, religion, age, beliefs in general. I think it rocks!!!

Ya...you know it is so...well..funny is the word, I guess.(Even though homophobia is not funny at all.) In Toronto they have the Gay Pride Day parade every summer, and you will find Drag Queens and the Chief of Police holding hands. It's just so cool, and feels so good that some people are very tolerant of diversity these days. We (well...I'm not gay...not that there is anything wrong with that...Jerry...lol!) have come so far, but at the same time there are elements of society that are very homophobic and intolerant. One of my former best friends growing up was bisexual, and he used to try so hard to hide it. He abandoned me as a friend....I think because he wanted to run away from all that I knew. But....anyways.

OK, it's a fake story... but it doesn't seem too far-fetched, either.

and he said 'it sounds like some harry potter stuff'

i have a hard time keeping up with all that harry potter stuff. it's hard enough for me to remember that the dallas cowboy cheeleaders come on tv on saturdays (or is it friday????? see, proves my point!!!)

does that make things more interesting though?

I didn't know at first either!

I wondered who the heck that was?

I didn't read the post because I didn't have time - was just quickly skimming.

Can't remember how I found out. I think I heard it on the radio in the car & figured it out.

The author was in Toronto around then, doing book signings.

I saw the first movie & enjoyed it; haven't read any of the books.

I love the Harry Potter series. I just found the announcement of Dumbledore being gay kind of funny. I can't really explain why, I have a weird sense of humor. Basically I thought it was pretty cool though. I guess I'm just an admirer of people who have the guts to buck the norm.

Saw a cartoon about this today... One kid says to the other, "Did you hear the news about Dumbledore? He's..." and the other cuts her off, "Yes! I can't believe he's imaginary!"
