Need some mosquito's?

Posted by Phil on July 17, 2007, at 19:43:30

We've got some to spare in Texas. Ain't that right, Texans?

Scratch, scratch. Little bloodsuckers.

Not the Texans, the mosquito's.

They spray our environment full of toxic chemicals to kill those mosquitos. Seems like a fair trade to me.

When I was a kid riding my bike, I used to ride through the mosquito haze our local truck dispersed.
Nobody told me DDT was bad for you. duh

Oh so that's what's wrong with you toxic chemicals? Love Phillipa and as you know its a joke but they are toxic chemicals used to close the windows and run in the house when the truck went by in VA .

When I was a kid it was standard procedure. Shut up the doors and spray the room for flies (but mosquitoes would do). Tea towel over the food.
So reassuring how science and technology protected your life and made it better.
Not enhancing it. That came later with something else.

I might could trade you a few skeeters for chiggers.... p1ssants are driving me to distraction also, relatively harmless but pesky.

Not that you asked, but, my friend swears by rubbing down with Bounce fabric softener sheets to keep 'em away.... they don't like to be soft and supple, I don't know.... Another likes Avon's Skin So Soft.

Hey Phil...

Another Texan, Jim Hightower, has become one of my fav authors as of late. Have you ever read or seen him?

Sorry about the 'squites, as I can relate. Here in Canada they are very active in June-July. In August, they seem to lay off a bit, but I still think they are pure evil. We also have 'blackflies' (No...not of the Conrad type...lol) in May-June. So, that becomes a double shot of evil..and takes away from camping that time of year. I seem to enjoy hotel rooms more as I get..ollllddderrr. Heh.

Did I mention crickets are 2 months early? They get in any building in abundance. At least they don't bite.

Jay, I'm familiar with Jim Hightower but I don't read or watch anything political, good or bad. Life's too short.

Hotter than normal up there?

Coldest winter for 20 years here.

It was -25C at Thredbo and I missed it.

about Conrad!!! hee hee

Hey, what campsite area are you in at the Pinery? We're going to be in the Dunes one, on the East side of the road you go down that main road that has the loops going off it.

We're there August 19 to 24th. The past several years, late August seems to have been pretty good weather there.

Hope you're doing well, :-) Kath

Hello Kath

I live close to the sea, so it has been maximum of around 17C. When I got up this morning it was 6C.
(So much nicer with the cold dry air. I don't like humidity.)

Frosts this morning inland and ice in the clothes on the line.
Very unusual.

I grew up on farenheit, PJ, and as you would guess, I don't hold with this decimal nonsense, but it's so long ago I've forgotten.

Maybe 20 or so?

What's freezing point in F?

32 degrees...

Conversion: Tf = (9/5)*Tc+32

So, X = (9/5)*20 + 32
= 1.8*20 + 32
= 36 + 32
= 68

and X = 1.8*6 + 32
= 10.8 + 32
= 42.8

I think that's right, at any rate...

Twelve huh? Does your gecko have any kinfolk around? :)

You ever vacuum up a bunch of crickets and not clean the vacuum for a while? Sweet.

Hi Phil,

Uh, I've never vacuumed up crickets, but I've let canned crickets (yum, packed in their own juices) get rancid and yikes the smell is not roses I can tell you that. Of course, Spot, my gecko likes live crickets the best and turns up her nose at canned ones most of the time. Nothing like a trip to the pet store every week. I wish you could send some my way. Then again, maybe Spot would like a road trip.
