Where is everyone?

Posted by Angela2 on June 8, 2007, at 13:26:17

It's so quiet. How come no one posts on social anymore? *crickets chirping*

It doesn't seem like anyone is posting ANYWHERE today. I guess it's the weekend. It's always quiet here on weekends. Apparently some people have lives. What's up with that? I'm not one of them, though, so I'll be around.

Some people might wish to deprive us of the small pleasures of schadenfreude by having lives where they do stuff.

or

They're avoiding me. I feel it, deep in my heart.

Well, I know that everyone had their own reasons for doing so but I find it overwhelming that SO many posters changed their names. That has kind of kept me quiet. Plus I am still very depressed, showing mostly as apathy. I keep checking back here for new posts but haven't even felt like I can offer much support to anyone at the moment.
I expect that Babble will find its rhythm again, eventually. I also expect that I will become less depressed at some time.

I did attempt to have a life yesterday and started a new volunteer job at an art museum. 4 hours of sheer boredom, and of being asked questions I couldn't answer. The place is a great museum but seems like a horrible place to work. Most often heard phrase of the day was, "that's not my job." Ow.

That's my story, anyways.

I've got a horrible spider bite the doc thinks it is on my arm had it for a week and it keep getting bigger so now antibiotics, warm soaks and motrin every four hours. And since I slept late and took a nap and never stay home a poster is saying I'm more depressed is sitting still one day out of a year seriously and taking a nap a sign of depression getting worse he has me scared. So I thought I had ovarian cancer since no OB-GYN in three years but none of the symtoms except the stomach and weight gain. But isn't that to be expected at my age? Weight gain in the stomach? I'm so mad at him I could bust a seam as now to prove I'm not will have to ride the 7.5 miles on the bike in this humid 90 degree heat. Should I have to do that? Can't one be tired now and then? Love Phillipa

I can just imagine being a guide in a museum.
It could be an exercise in pure incomprehension, things I hadn't heard of, history I didn't know, museum layout which was news to me.
It took me a year at the station to be able to do the simplest things without asking.

Of course the reason posters such as myself changed their names was that their old ones didn't work.
I told them this at the station, and said my new name was Sigismund.
'Sounds like a good name for a porn site' they brightly said.
'My old one was Declan'.
'That sounds like it's from a porn site too'.

Cheer up, Scratchy.

Oh.
Light bulb goes on over my head.

I feel better, thank you Declan. I'll get used to the new name.

I was OK at the museum until someone asked me how to see the second image in a surrealist painting. My contact lenses nearly popped out of my head looking for the dead president's face hidden in it. I advised the patron to walk around for a bit and then come back and try again... then I looked around for help and got the "not my job" line. Those poor people have no idea what's been unleashed on them.

How about one is allowed to be tired one day and take a nap? My husband travels for a few days and has to sleep for a few to make up for it. Seems like a natural reaction to stress. If he doesn't make the time to relax he gets sick with a cold; you can almost predict it. So now, I insist that he snooze on the sofa and channel surf after he's been away.

I hope your bite feels better soon.

Allow me to segue to the Abbot of Ampleforth.

Hi Scratchpad. Hey, what is the meaning behind your name? If you don't mind me asking. It took me a while to recognise you were Clearskies.

I'm glad you have a positive outlook on the way you're feeling. That's great. I hope u feel better soon too.

Volunteering at the museum sounds fun. Sorry you had to talk to that not so nice person. Maybe they were having a bad day. Or maybe they just suck, lol.

Well, when I was briefly a deputy (if you blinked you might have missed it) and then decided that I wasn't going to be one anymore, I made a break with the whole weather-related name thing. I haven't felt clear-skied for a while now. The scratchpad was the only thing I could think of that had nothing to do with my other names, and nothing to do with anything, really. Maybe my cat and her propensity to use my lap as a scratching pad when she's getting ready to curl up for a visit.
Mostly it was to make as big a change as I could from the last name. I guess there is some personal trauma there with relation to having been a deputy. No matter how long I trained for it, I wasn't ever really ready for it.

I'm going to try another museum tomorrow. And there are a few local environmental groups I might seek out.

Thanks, Lala!

Cool about the name!
By the way, I am not Angielala. She is a different person. A few people thought I was her besides u. Maybe I should change my name and add to the confusion, lol.

That is pretty hilarious, considering we've been talking about name changes!!

****That stresses me out! I feel this big 'loss' thing.***

That has kind of kept me quiet. Plus I am still very depressed, showing mostly as apathy. I keep checking back here for new posts but haven't even felt like I can offer much support to anyone at the moment.

*****sometimes I think we have the wrong idea of what support consists of; for me, even having someone say "I'm sorry you're upset" or something really simple helps immensely!! Sorry you've been depressed & hope you're feeling better.***

*********how amazing that you're able to get enough 'gumption' to DO VOLUNTEER work!!! Yikes - sounds pretty stressful that time though. I suspect it will improve; keep us posted.

Hey Phillipa

You're in touch with reality! One day under those circumstances is quite understandable.

Don't know what you're referring to - maybe a babblemail, but HEY - you're pretty special & maybe the person was just worried about you & sort of got anxious.

Don't get heat-stroke OK?

luv you, my special lady, hugs, Kath

I'm giving it one more day (and I'll ask for *something* to do while I look for admission stickers). If I still don't like the people there, I'll tell them I'm not coming back. Also, the artist whose collection the museum houses (Salvador Dali) wasn't a very likable person, IMO. Hard to be enthusiastic about someone you respect but don't like. Maybe my head is just screwed on crooked about this position, but it doesn't feel right.

Meanwhile...
The science centre I had been helping out at called me to come in. The job had ended with the school year, but I had offered to come in any time. I just mentioned to my T today that I called 2 weeks ago to repeat my offer to work. I know that things happen when they are supposed to happen, and not a minute before.

And...
I have been cleaning my little stretch of the beach on my morning walks for the past few days. I take an empty bag and a rubber glove with me. I must sound like a madwoman right about now, but I went to an environmental panel discussion about the oceans on Saturday night. And I'm trying to help heal the Mother, you know? So this is my bit. This weekend there's a local, coordinated effort to clean a bayou that's been neglected for 10 years. 2 pairs of gloves.

On a very basic level, volunteering is so much easier than having to contemplate going to work. It's been 2 years since I quit due to depression. This way I am able to contribute somewhere where I already know I'm wanted.

I feel less crappy today than I did yesterday.
This is progress.
