I'm no longer addicted to psycho-babble

Posted by Llurpsie_Noodle on March 1, 2007, at 10:01:20

February, 2007 is the month when I became un-addicted to babble by:

1) limited checking the boards to only a few boards
2) tried to stay busy doing other stuff, like knitting and dissertating

It's much better to look forward to spending happy time on babble than it is to feel compelled to click click click. looking for answers about myself, the answers that I will have to discover on my own. I cannot expect others to have my answers.

BUT, it has been hard, particularly at the beginning. I was worried people wouldn't like me as much. I felt massive guilt because I wasn't keeping up with some of the longer sagas, the strife on the admin board, or the daily lives of posters that I feel camaraderie with. Would people still like me if I don't keep up to speed on the latest developments in babbleonia?

I also felt like crap during much of February- my mind and life were very unstable. I tend to post more when I'm feeling happy and helpful. I'm like a cat- when injured I run and hide.

But thank you all who have reached out to me and responded to my sporadic posts and sent me babble-mails to see how Llurpsie's doing.

best to you :)

I run and hide too... it makes life easier for me to deal with.

What's your latest knitting project? I want to learn again, but the one time I tried, I got horribly frustrated with it. How did you learn?

I'm still working on baby sweater with chunky red wool. about 80% done. I still have to finish 1 sleeve (maybe tonight), and the collar. Then I need to pack it up and write a letter to my friend that I made it myself to explain away the funny little loops (2 of them) in the left sleeve. I "hope" it fits a real baby. I'm going to see if it fits a paper towel roll. figure that will be a good way to tell.

After that, I'm going to be making a light pink (eat your heart out ElaineM!) merino wool mesh vest. The knit is super big and stretchy, so I hope it goes fast. In the summer I can wear it over a camisole or spagetti strap top for a layered effect.

then... I have about 7 balls of yarn. that will keep me busy for a while, I bet.

oh another friend just had her baby. if I've got leftover baby pink merino, maybe I'll make some booties or a baby hat.

hubby has ordered an orange knit cap from me too.

so many stitches, so little time....

sigh..

Hey, Llurps. I wish I could knit, I'd knit myself a nice hat. I know just the hat I want, too,.

I'm less addicted also. I've started metal working. Nothing like filing a piece of brass or copper to take hours of time and be completely monotonous and absorbing at the same time.

My latest thing (would-be thing, I should say) is rivetting.

But don't dissert us altogether, you hear now?

oh you punster, you :)

I've almost finished it. I can finish it before the evening is over.

T told me today that I need to think more about the process. screw the process. I want the baby sweater off my needles!

metal working- just keep your eye guards on. If you get a metal fragment in your eye, you'll never be able to go near an MRI machine.

I wrote a whole bunch of messages this afternoon-- and none of them took. which is very odd.

Hi Llurpsie!

I'm glad to see you drop by once in a while!

You've really found yourself a hobbie there with the knitting! How long did it take you to learn? I've never fully learned how to knit. Did you learn from a book?

It's funny how it can get addictive isnt it? I'm still pretty new, but I have definately found that if I miss logging on for a day, I wonder whats gone on in my absence! I think I need to get a life sometimes.

The knitting sounds great, you must have the patience of a saint - do you get irritated with it if it goes wrong?

I got a kit at the bookstore. "Klutz learn to knit". It included a nice book with pictures, some basic acrylic yarn, 2 needles a crochet hook, and little buttons.

Enough yarn to make several projects, and step-by-step instuctions. Things like a pocket for an iPod, a scarf, a hat, etc.

The yarn is not very pretty, but was easy to work with.

Traditionally knitting is children's work, so I figure a PhD candidate has the necessary cognitive apparatus to learn how to knit.

practice and motivation are the main reasons why everyone doesn't knit, I suppose. No one is "born" to be a knitter. It's just pulling a loop of yarn through another loop. over and over again. :)

Me too, I think.

I'm glad you're making progress in the dissertation.

I've never done knitting, but I used to enjoy needlepoint before my eyes got old. Very relaxing.

good for you! :) » Llurpsie_Noodle

wish kk would reach that level of enlightenment :(

all she hears from mr kk is 'what'd you do all day?' then, when he gets on the computer, he finds out. i'm overly sensitive to my 'babble addiction' as i call it. mister bob is so very addictive though, isn't he? is it really that bad, i ask, to lock all the children in the closet so i can post? is it really? but it makes me feel soooooo good!

you have been missed miss noodle. even by the very self absorbed ones (not me of course) who act like we haven't noticed!

have a lovelie one, lovely!
kk

oh, and miss productive! may i call you that now?

one more thing (promise!) will be shooting something your way (perhaps an arrow?)... keep your eyes closed!
