I have a few babbler friends that are lonely on Saturday night without anyone it bothers them to feel this way. Time to be glad you're married or have a boyfriend. Let's wish them well and let them know they aren't the only ones or that we're here with them. Thanks Phillipa

Hey! This is a bit more silly and light-hearted (but well-meaning):
a New York Times article from several months ago asserted that it is now officially "uncool" to go out on Saturday nights, because Saturday nights are now considered to be "amateur night"! Restaurants and bars packed, cabs impossible, crowds... The article was unintentionally humerous- socialites and celebrities musing about how nothing beats a quiet Saturday night at home to unwind from the week. Oh- weeknights are the new "cool nights" to go out. I wish I could find it.

So, from what the article you're speaking of says, if I (a single woman who doesn't like to go out alone) was asked by a person 'in a pretentious manner' why I never go out on Fri or Sat nights, I could say, "I don't need to go out on Fri or Sat Night to be cool!"
I know the golden rule 'should' rule, but some peeps are just plain mean these days. What ya' think? A good comeback?

Roll your eyes knowingly, and say, "Please- you actually go out on amateur night?"If you do so with enough conviction, they will feel like idiots!

I actually went out with a friend Saturday night for the first time in... I don't now how long. Kind of an accomplishment for me as I tend to be a hermit. It was fun. We went to a museum exhibit where we ate little appetizers and drank wine (which of course I spilled in the gift shop later - not drunk just typical clumsy me). We shared how emotional some of the art made us feel (new to me as she was never into art before like I was), then we went to a restaurant later and had Mango Margaritas (which were AWESOME) and discussed old times. It was nice. This is the friend I just reconnected with that I had cut out of my life several years ago because it was such a toxic relationship. She's changed so much and so have I. Its weird, I'm constantly floored by certain aspects of her personality now and have to remind myself she isn't the same person.

Oh thanks- I learn a lot from that New York Times! great publication. And I can build on it- if someone is particularly obnoxious and deserving of special treatment, be sure to lead them into thinking that you are out at exclusive, fascinating, "insider events" on weeknights-probably celebrity filled- you hardly notice such things any more though, frankly- celebrities are just people after all- while all they are doing is watching tv, planning their outfits for amateur night! :) No wonder you are so beat by Saturday....whew!

Seriously, you guys-we are grown ups, and what propells us to still think we have to do something fabulous on Saturday nights? The NTY article was a little funny- but also serious. Venues of all sorts on Saturday nights ARE packed to the gills with all sorts of "amateurs"- everything's crowded- it's just more fun to go out during the week when there is plenty more breathing space. You can see the bar, you can get a table at a restaurant, movies not sold out two hours ahead of time, some cabs ARE free... Saturday...is just another night of the week, after all. Only difference is most people can sleep late Sunday. But is that enough reward to tolerate crowds and long waits everywhere?

Yeah ... Aren't Wed nights a good alternative, or are they packed as well? I like clubs that have live entertainment if going out alone.
Geez .. free cabs? I'm sorta' scared of being a woman alone in a cab w/ a male driver. I wonder if I could request a female? Hmmmm. Would that even be safer?
A woman alone should prob' carry mace huh?
There is always some man I can get to take me home, but they want MORE, and I DON'T w/o love.
Why do guys do that? Don't men still have that 'protect a woman' thing goin' on?Last time I wished he had a health card and might have considered. Time b4 a woman came up to me and whispered in my ear 'he has hepatitis'. I thought the 70s were bad, but now it's just men and women who don't even know one another hoppin' in and out of bed all the time. I can't go there.
Certainly all men don't want to either?!
Do they make a colored band for people who want company w/o exchanging bodily fluids?

You know, places ARE considerably less crowded during the week, but people are still definately out. I find the vibe much more relaxed though than on weekends. Easier to enjoy, in my opinion. Much less of that "desperately seeking date" thing going on, too.As for cabs, the way I figure, you can't guarentee safety on the bus or on foot either. Most cabbies are just eager to get you to your destination, collect the fare, and then go find another as soon as possible.
This is the end of the thread.
