My OCD list - worries

Posted by rjlockhart on February 20, 2007, at 14:51:32

I have such a list that i have in my mind that is driving me ..........

First
1. Ants are in my house, Fire ants, and just got bit twice while i was on the computer. Going nuts, just cleaned my room STRAIGHT through for crums, anything that is attracting them.

2. I cant find my CD's, there lost, im telling you i go nuts when i cant find things. One in paticualar the Mothman Profiecies Soundtrack which i have been searching for a couple days.

3. What vacuume cleaner should i use, i have multiples for reasons, there all uprights.

4. What im going to wear and how im going to look nice for work or social, i stay in the bathroom with my danm hair for at least 10min.

5. I cant find things that i think on the top of my head.

6. Keeping the house clean, especially with having 4 cats and only two litter boxes.

7. My room is clean but the freaking smell, i dont know maybe its humitity, makes it smell like unwashed sheets.

6. I smoke when i reach i point i cant take it any longer. Anxiety meds dont help.

Maybe a psychostimulant to keep me focused?

Well my doctor doesnt want me on a stimulant but actually i did exeedinly above my what i wanted to do. And i felt fine about it not worried or torched that i didnt get something done.

Thats it i have alot more i cant think of.

I have to force myself to do it. If i dont i will just be miserable.

Matt

Matt wash your sheets. And how do fireants get in a house? They build mounds in the dirt or sand to live in. And why more than one vacuum cleaner. And two litter boxes are enough for two cats just keep them clean. By the way how is Queen la pee pee? Love Phillipa

I havent washed my sheets, in a while, its time. Im doing it tommorow after work.

These ants are coming out of the freaking walls. Its exterminator time.

Queen Lapee has actually turned her vows over and stopped peeing. She had some kind of kindney stones. Its now we have two Diabetic cats now, we have 4 cats, we have to give them each insulin, one of them uses the #2 outside the litter box.

Im going nuts i can already smell that horrid smell....

Im giving him 4 Imodium AD pills, i dont care if its for humans or not. Its discusing.

Right now im just trying to think what im going to do, i have 4 vacuums, each for a diffrent room.

Ugh...well i dont know, im thinking too much.

Phillipa - what do you mean by he's redirected?

Also he has 4 cats, so I had always heard that you need a littebox for each cat PLUS an extra!

Hugs, Kath

Hi Matt,

I think it's a great idea to make a LIST. What if you write one on paper also? You could keep it somewhere & if something's driving you crazy, just write it onto the list. I think you came up with a good idea, having a list.

I get really upset also if I can't find something. My house has a lot of clutter here & there. It's always on my mind that I should DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What if I died & somebody had to deal with all my STUFF??!!

Anyway, I hope you can deal with ants. I once had an ant problem & bought a plastic bottle of liquid. I think it was called Ant Kill or something. If you have cats, you'd put a drop of the stuff where the cats could NOT reach it - preferably near where the ants seem to be coming into the house. It worked REALLY well!!

Would it work to buy a couple more litter boxes? Not sure how much they cost - you can even use just a plastic storage box without the lid if that's cheaper.

Hang in there Matt. Sounds like you're pretty stressed out.

hugs, Kath

Same here Phillipa, then a vet said the thing about 1 per cat & an extra. When my daughter had her "ninja" here, he & "Ginger" shared 2 boxes. It seems some cats' litter is more smelly than others. I guess it's their digestive systems....Ninja is not here now & the litter doesn't even get smelly!! Also I would scoop it several times before (any time I was downstairs - just to keep the smell down) & now I don't have to - it just doesn't get smelly. I'm lucky I guess.

I agree that writing things down in a list helps keep order in your brain. Do you start one thing, say, looking for a cd, then something else pops in your head, like, ok now I gotta quickly vacuum? You end up not really sorting out anything, getting more and more frustrated. I'm like you, and I can get in a real state if I dont make myself keep order -putting things back in the same place so I can always find them, sticking to a routine. It's hard though when you live with 'normal' people who dont sweat this stuff!

From childhood to mid-twenties I had serious OCD's,mostly to do with order. My biggest issues were with numbers. They ruled my life, for example, I couldnt get out of bed till my digital clock readout added up to a certain number, I couldnt follow a car if the number plate added up to a 'wrong' number, wherever I saw numbers, I added them up and there were certain 'bad' ones that meant chaos to me. It was exhausting, and it was all about being in control.

To be totally honest Kath, I didnt have a defining moment when my problem with numbers disappeared, all I can say is that as I got towards my thirties I sort of changed - grew up a little maybe. I'd had a really bad time (homeless, drugs) in my mid-late teens, followed by seemingly lurching from one bag of trouble to another in my early twenties.
My husband and I hit melt down in our relationship when I was 26,which we managed to overcome, and after that things started to kind of 'clear' and I settled down, finally!

I still have some tendencies, like the volume on the tv/radio mustnt be on,or add up to certain numbers, but I think it's more from habit now.
I also Have my kitchen drawers lined with bubble wrap, and cupboards lined with paper, and I probably wash my hands a lot more than most people! I can live like this though.

Warm regards
Jo
