Booked my campsite for June!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Kath on January 23, 2007, at 20:17:10

Yesterday I booked my campsite for my Kath's Week Away end of June at Killbear Provincial Park.

I still plan to post some photos from my last year's camping holidays.

I'm pleased because it gives me a nice positive to look forward to, amidst all the stress-about-son stuff in my life right now.

That sounds cool - could you give any recommendations for other parks in eastern canada to go camping? I want to go there - it seems beautiful - but there are so many choices and I have no idea where to start!!!

May I?

Eastern Canada is pretty huge.

My favourite Ontario campgrounds are Killarney and Bon Echo. The former is on Georgian Bay, and has some fantastic "Group of Seven" scenery. Superb fish available just outside the park. The latter park offers much of the experience of Algonquin, but is more accessible.

Fundy National Park in New Brunswick is quite an experience.

The Gaspe in Quebec is one place I'd like to go, but I've never been.

It just so happens I knew just the person to ask. My sister does all the artwork/layout for the Ontario Parks Guide. The photo was taken at Lake Superior Provincial Park. Ontario is huge.....that's a two day drive northwest of Toronto.

She gave me a tip to something I didn't know. Some parks have roofed accomodations. The cottage at Awenda is "simply stunning", according to her. $890/wk, sleeps six. The cottage at Bon Echo would be awesome, too.

You're very welcome.

I don't know where you live, & I've mostly camped in Ontario, but my husband & I went to Nova Scotia & Cape Breton Island & CBIsland is SOOOOO beautiful. I'd love to camp there.

We drove the Cabot Trail - the main "highway" around Cape Breton Island. The scenery is simply stupendous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love planning for a trip. I hope you have lots of fun with the planning.

Thanks Deneb,

I used to get totally stressed out about planning what to take camping.

I now have all the kitchen stuff, etc in a large Rubbermaid box & all the camping stuff is on certain shelves in the basement & I have a list of clothing to take.

So now most of the stress is gone!!! Although last year I took the wrong "dining tent" (screen house) & as a result the poles didn't fit it, so I had to tie it up to trees with ropes! I did a pretty good job, considering!

Have you ever gone camping? I love nature, so it really appeals to me....especially going in June, before school is out & there are very few people there & I go by myself & can do preCISEly what I want & when! I love it.

Maybe you can plan something to look forward to?

:-) Kath

Yes I've been camping a couple of times. It's fun. Right now my sister has my sleeping bag and stuff.

You go camping alone? I've never done that before. What's your favourite thing to do while camping?

I love snorkelling!!!!!! » Deneb

Hmmmmmm - my favourite thing? I always have trouble choosing ONE favourite anything, whether it's food, colour, flower, etc.

I think my very-best-favourite thing is this:

Snorkelling. Since I go camping in June at Killbear, sometimes the water is still sorta cold. But I love snorkelling. I love lying, floating on the top of the water - just lying there drifting & looking at the amazing underwater world.

At Killbear, a large part of the shorline is rock...huge rocks, small rocks, rock shelves, rock cave-like structures. So it makes it VERY interesting.

My most favourite snorkelling experience was this:
Floating along parallel to the rock/cliff part of the shore. There were various fish here & there & the coolest thing is that they just LOOK at me! I guess they think I'm just another fish!! So anyway, I was floating along looking at the fish & I swam (or floated) into a 'school' of about 12 fish. They were about 10 inches long (I don't know it in centimeters - about ahand & a half long, including fingers). They swam towards me & sort of surrounded me & I was PART of the school!!!!!!!!! It was totally wonderful. I was smiling so much I had to be careful that water didn't get into my mouth around the edges of the snorkel tube thingy.

I also love sitting by the water in a comfy chair with my feet up on a rock & hearing the water sounds as I read.

The first year I went camping by myself was actually 2000 - the first year I was a member here at PsychoBabble. I had been here maybe a few weeks; I'd just started taking Celexa & had come here for support & info. I really missed being able to come to PB!! I had hardly ever done anything all by myself in my life, so it took a little getting used to...even going for a long walk along the shore was a big deal for me.

thx for asking.....you should know better than to give me a chance to 'spout off' - I tend to go on & on!!!!!

hugs, Kath
