Anyone have experience with red ear sliders?

Posted by shadowplayers721 on January 23, 2007, at 21:51:16

I found a little fella out in the back yard. I took him in and got him set up in an aquarium now. I got some turtle food for him and a filter a lite for the aquarium. He seems very astute. I never had a turtle before now. The fella eats out of my hands. The cat loves to watch him swim and perch on his deck.

they are extremely intelligent and cool little guys. i've had several. i imagine he had a family since he eats out of your hand. they could have gotten tired of taking care of him and abandoned him/her. i'm glad you took the little dude in.
mine loved cantaloupe. small slivers. and some occasional lettuce. earthworms.

i absolutely love turtles/terrapins. i had 17 in my flower beds at the ranch.......:-) they had babies, hibernated, did the whole thing. i even had a little dog that i could ask "where
s a turtle?" and he would rush to find one and then "point" over it. :-)

What a lucky turtle! They are great pets! My little brother had two.. he had the tank set up so it was half water half land- they loved swimming and sunning- oh yeah, he had a little "heat" lamp he bought at a pet store for them on one side of the tank- something about having a warm zone and a cool zone. Not sure if that's necessary. He had to change the water and all that every week I think... I remember them loving melons and leafy veggies as snacks. They were so cool to watch.

Maybe this site would be helpful: http://www.anapsid.org/reslider.html

Have you given it a name?
