Preemptive Christmas Cards

Posted by verne on December 11, 2006, at 11:36:55

I'm starting to get early Christmas cards from people I hadn't planned sending one to. But they sent one to me early enough for me to have time to reciprocate.

I've decided not to take the bait even if they send me the big family picture and novel. Why pretend once a year that I'm anything but an isolated, deeply bitter, and sometimes cranky hermit?

Good observation about those Christmas letter inserts. They seem to say, "Our life is good and yours isn't!"

All their kids are graduating from college, everybody got promotions, they had a dream vacation - cruise around the world or helicopter ski trip to a remote mountain range.

Perhaps, I'll insert one of my own describing my miserable life (if I had a life) and ask them for money for rehab.

Aw, Verne - I'm sorry, but this made me laugh so hard! I want to do the same, listing the different meds I've been on in the past year and where my most spectacular meltdowns were!

There's mileage in that. You could have a field day.
Just assume everyone is interested and that you are in the Royal family, unaccountably housed in Iowa.
Tell them everything.

Hi Verne,

Hallmark really needs a line of cards for these ocassions. Something like *Here's your &%$# card, what the #*$% did send one to me for?*

Of course you could always put theirs in an envelope and send it back. Recycling is good for the environment.

For more creative holiday tips just consult an isolated, bitter, depressed and terminally sarcastic Poet.

Can I join the crowd? I'd like money for meds for a year. And money for the ones that don't work too. Love Phillipa

That's a great idea.
Just cross out what they have written and write your own stuff, adding that you know they will understand as it is so important to reduce our output of greenhouse gasses.

It's a bit like the Oxfam thing where you buy someone a goat and your card that informs them of this is the present.

How about a (large) card where you tell them about all the supplements you've been on for the year?

Phil posted such a funny list once about how to handle the question of mental illness...it included

"5. No, I take 12 pills a day because they're pretty."

heeheehee

Phil's posts have been such a source of humour over the years. Thank goodness he pops in from time to time.

original list in post back from late May 2002 or so on psychology board....

Good idea, Declan.

Perhaps, add that you're on the *gift registry* at iherb.com, iamshaman.com, and the San Francisco Herb and Spice Company.

Or say, that you're marrying someone you met in rehab and ask for a little going-away present - If you pay us we won't visit you.

Or enclose the "before" picture to the crash diet and say it's the "after" photo.

or down at the bottom of the card or letter be sure to acknowledge the maunfacturers of the medications taken

something along the lines of: this card would not have been possible w/o *my* personal generous support of GlaxoSmithKlein, Mylan, Eon, Sandoz, Barr and many other fine pharmaceutical companies.

Ooh! I could use my abandoned hot glue gun for that one!
As if I don't already freak my entire family out as it is.
