Silly irrational fears or phobias - what's yours

Posted by dreamboat_annie on November 20, 2006, at 20:12:30

I have two - escalators (weird, I know) and pigeons (again, weird, I know). I think I can pretty much trace back to where the fear or, more appropriately, apprehension started, so you would think that I could completely overcome the apprehension. Almost there with the pigeons, but the escalators . . .

Well, i am afraid of the mail.

Yes the mail.

I can't hardly check mine. I have to order packages and stuff to make me go to the mailbox to get them.

driving (irrational because I've never gotten into an accident or gotten a moving violation. I'm a good driver)

insects that run fast

performing solos on violin (again crazy irrational, because I've had MANY more good experiences than bad)

*********************

Mine aren't that silly, but my husband has an amazing phobia: aluminum foil.

He literally runs out of the room if he spots it. If his baked potato comes wrapped in in, he puts his hands over his ears and squishes his eyes closed tight until I kick him and tell him that his potato has been unwrapped, and the ball of foil has been concealed from view. You would not believe the things that come wrapped in foil- chocolate, hamburgers, broiler pans, potluck casseroles, christmas ornaments, pie pans... all kinds of happy things are wrapped up in my husband's phobia.

Who's the crazy one in this marriage, anyway?

Yeah, I have the mail phobia now too.

I think it must be an association with the bills.

I also started develop phone phobia around the same time.

Strangely most of my "non-serious" phobias are based on things I dislike immensely.

If I don't like a certain TV show or famous person, and I see a street with a name that reminds me of that, I will refuse to drive on it. Goofy things like that.

Other people, not me.

Of course, I haven't thrown up in over fifteen years.

Knock wood.
