I have an internship at a newspaper and my bosses think I'm lazy and not writing enough articles. The problem is I'm so depressed I can't get myself to do more than I'm doing. I need to do well in this internship so I'll have good references and can get a job when the internship ends next month. I'm afraid there may be nothing to help in a month's time. Depression is destroying my career. I'm afraid I won't be able to get a job at a newspaper that can pay me a living wage so I'll be back living with my parents in rural Georgia at age 28.

I hate to tell you this, but newspapers usually don't pay a "living wage." Lots of hard work, little time off and low pay.

Could you write an article or a series of articles on different facets of mental health issues or health care issues. Maybe a series of articles covering health care for the elderly, prescription drug costs, mental health access to care etc.

you are in a rough spot and unfortunately disability looks more at your age than your illness (at least in my sit.). i am still fighting and have been since i was 27...would you feel comfortable at all speaking or writing a letter w/ your boss about things? i ask b/c what you are going through is medical and in most places you cannot be fired if time off is needed due to a medical condition...just thinking off the top of my head. hang in there

I'm sorry, I know exactly how you feel. Is there something about writing the articles that you don't like? Something you are procrastinating about? I seem to find that when I'm in that situation there's usually an underlying additional reason why I'm procrastinating about something. Like fear of failure (if you don't try then you'll always have an excuse), or fear of success (if you succeed you have to keep it up), or just dreading a certain part of the job (getting started, editing, typing). Just a thought anyway.
