I get so depressed that I become very unproductive at work. What can I do? I have no family to take me in.

I'm on my own too so I know what that's like. Are you seeing a therapist and/or on medication? I remember there was a point where I just absolutely could not do my job anymore (because of depression). I would start off to work and then make a u-turn halfway there. I just could not handle it. Then I got on meds and it felt like a fog had cleared. I suddenly could see what was making me so miserable (the job itself) and was able to think of ways to solve the problem. It was really a turning point in my life.
If you are already on meds maybe they need to be adjusted. Different meds have given me dramatically different results. See you pdoc about this and tell him how you feel. He could probably give you good advice on the matter as well.
Going to a T helped me even more than meds alone. If you're already seeing one, be sure to tell them about this. They may see solutions you're not able to because of the depression. For me depression is like a cloud around my brain preventing me from thinking clearly. Sometimes you just need an objective person to point things out to you.
Good luck and don't feel alone - because you're not.
