And thankyou Larry for helping me narrow my options down, and give me so many other things to think about. Without you, I'm pretty sure I would have ended up with the wrong camera!
Anyway, I opted for the Fuji Finepix S9500. And its fantastic. Its very different from any camera I've used before, having always been an owner of a compact point and press, but I love the control I am learning already.
I've not been overly impressed with the LCD screen so far. I think I have been spoilt with the screen on myCasio Exilim Z500 which is stunning. I think an anti-reflection cover would help there - and in truth, today has been the first summery, sunny day of the year, and I've not used my Casio in those conditions.
But everything else about it I am loving. The ability to tilt the LCD screen has been susprisingly useful already.
The zoom control is perfect. You twist the barrel for the zoom, so you have great control over the zoom amount, and at the base of the barrell is a manual focus ring. You can have the camera set 100% to auto, but still have that bit of extra focus control which I like.I took it out today for some practice. Its going to take some getting used to, especially the fact that photography is now a two handed deal *L* Its 9megapixel at its maximum, but today I set it to 5megapixels so I could compare picture quality with my Casio. And I am impressed. The pictures are *much* sharper in full resolution, and the colour balance much better also. The zoom is to die for *grins*
Anyway, thought you might like to see the pictures I uploaded from today..

Expect *lots* more photos coming from me *L* I really like sharing them, which is so wierd for me, and I really hope you don't get bored of them *L*

Congratulations on the new camera! I'm sure you'll have tons of fun fiddling around with it!
Did you just take up photography? I thought your pictures were very good. I love all the vibrant green colours. :-)

You're welcome, Nikki dear. I, uhh, errr, don't know how I helped. We just talked about them. I'm really glad you're glad.

I'm glad. This will really let you have some fun, once you get used to it. You are an intuitive photographer. I love looking at your pictures.

That's great, and I loved seeing your pics. Is the camera an SLR? (As if I know what I'm asking). My husband's next camera purchase will be one that he can change lenses on. Our is auto focus now. It's good, but as he gets more into photography, well, ya have to get new equipment, right?
Keep sharing those photos!

Its not quite an SLR.. Its *very* close to being so.. It has one fixed lense on it (10.7x zoom, equivalent to a 28mm - 300mm lense), but you can then add extra lenses onto it.. such as telephoto, fisheye (which I am dying for!), filters etc.. And you can also completely control it manually if you want to.. but so far I using the auto setting mainly!
And yes, you do need the new equipment *lol* Honest!
