How do I think of anything else?

Posted by Dinah on March 26, 2006, at 11:21:29

It could be anywhere from a couple of weeks to over a month till I find out anything.

And I haven't been able to think of anything else for weeks.

I've tried distracting myself here, or by spending money, but that's not so productive. I'd like to lose myself in work, but work doesn't seem to have as magnetic a pull as it needs to wrest my mind away from fear and worst case scenarios and desperate investigative searches on the internet.

Are you talking about your relocation? I always find distraction in movies. Not sure if that's something you like.

Can you use the time in a positive way, like by researching the area in which you might end up? Househunt online? Contact a church in the area and get info? Go visit in person? Call the Welcome Wagon and see if they can send you info? Research the school systems? Locate points of interest in the area?

It just seems like to me you would be feeling very out of control while you wait, and these kinds of things would give you a little more sense of control about the situation (always very comforting to me!). And if you don't end up there, you've still educated yourself, which is never a bad thing.

I really can epathize with your situation. Living in limbo is no fun at all. Just remember, "This too shall pass."

That's what I've been doing. Obsessively.

I can't say it's made me feel a lot better so far.

One of the possible choices got a lot better when we found out our old best friend, who's been in Florida, has been transferred to Houston and we'd be practically neighbors there. Not worth losing my therapist over, but at least some consolation.

But the more I find out about the other choices, the more depressed I get. I'm sure they're lovely places, but they don't seem right for us. :(

And my husband doesn't seem too keen on searching for other work.

I really hope we can stay here.

Thanks, Teresa.

I was just remembering this morning how useful watching marathons of "Dirty Dancing" and "Grease" and movies like that were when I have a lot of work to do. They seem to speed me up a bit. So, maybe I ought to rent a few and see if it can get me directed towards work, which would certainly be the most productive distraction.
