Sometimes when I speak the tone of my voice can be amazingly and effortlessly confident, whereas othertimes, even if I'm feeling pretty confident, my voice just comes across weak for lack of a better term--like where I feel I have to really try hard to make it sound, well, relaxed and confident.I don't smoke but I think carbonated beverages definitely have a negative effect (?). Could anyone share some tips or advice on this--particularly for men?

First, you gotta get a tone accent going. Get a catch to your voice, then make the tone. I have changed my voice over time. It takes time but, you can go see a Vocal Therpist who can change the way you present yourself (voice, accent, click)
I can make my voice bold, then make it sleek sounding, but dont get screwed up because you stumble over what your saying.
Stay in there.

The best way is to believe what you are saying.

I took a voice and diction class which helped alot with my confidence. You have to record yourself reading and you become VERY aware of how you sound. I think I've become a much better speaker after that class, if only by becoming more aware.
Eye contact is a big thing too. I still have a problem with that, but I'm getting better.
Also if you're talking to an individual, when wrapping up make sure you say their name. Like, "Nice talking to you Mike!" Or "Thank you Mr. Jones, I appreciate your time."
