I don't understand why someone might object to your using the "f-word" ;)

condescend - act in superior way
fondly - having affection or warm regard : LOVING
I think of it as your trademark too. I've always liked it.

It doesn't charm me, no. But Do I think you should stop using it? HELL NO!
It's you, and whenever you have something unique it's precious, and if there are those who love you for it, then there are always going to be those who dislike it with the same intensity.
That's how you find kindred spirits.

I like it - it's your signature greeting. Don't change it! I think it actually softens any post...just in case someone misreads something, or thinks a post is "harsh" (not that yours ever are), it's a nice way to soften the landing and remind them that you're writing fondly and not with any malice.
I always thought it was a kind, gentle way to sign your posts!

I think you should use it. I love the alliteration of it. It flows so nice, and it's so you!

I like it, have always liked it, and see no negative connotations in your usage of the term "fondly" when you sign off. Suspicious minds ... glad mine is leaving me.

I need to reword that.
Not to be more civil, just because it didn't come across the way I'd intended it too.
Fondly, doesn't affect me one way or the other.
What I was trying to say was, if one kind word bugs someone that's *their* problem.Trust me, I know because I have word hostility issues : ) No associations, I just hate certain words.. that's it. And I know it's my problem, otherwise I'd have to invent a pseudo-moral reason why people shouldn't use the word creamy.. or slacks.. or...slab oh I have so many.
You're sweet Phillipa, don't change.

Perhaps someone's grandmother used to pat them on the head as a child and say "I'm so fond of you". Maybe it brings up memories of being a child, and they interpret the word "fondly" in that way. Does that mean you should change? heck no.
If you ever want to change, because YOU want to, then go ahead. Until then, I'll be happy to see that someone is fond of us.

What??!! Your posts are not in the least bit condescending. I think "fondly" is a lovely way to sign off on either a post or a letter.
Please don't let this bother you. You are such a kind, thoughtful person.

After you tell him to go &^%%$ himself in a very civil way... ;~}
Actually, doesn't telling someone she was condescending for using the word fondly make this person extremely consescending AND completely asinine?

..
do not twist "my " words..i did not "suggest", you were condesending..i was "suggesting" to you personal concerns between 2 friends..i am sad you did this..
it makes me ill..to think my attentions were displayed as hurtful and.....i am a good moral person..
why would you let others believe i was otherwise?

Sorry I hurt your feelings. I didn't intend to do this. Was just looking for some feedback from others as I had wondered the same thing. Friendship has nothing to do with this. As far as I'm concerned you are a great friend to bring this to my attention. Glad to see you posting again. Everyone including me has missed your witty humor you use at times . Love Jan
