I still can't sit up for more than about 20 minutes without having a headache but I had to come and share this story. It's just too funny (at least to me).
I have fluid in my ear or something because I can hear myself talk in my head- I can even hear when I am breathing and swallow. I imagine lying flat for nearly 2 weeks might have allowed fluid to build up or something.
I've been taking antihistamines and it does help but they make me sleepy.Anyway, so my mom called me last night to check on me and I explained to her how this is bugging me (about hearing myself in my head) and wondered if she knew anything else I could take to help it go away. I thought maybe some swimmer's ear drops or something would clear it up.
So today my mom calls me back and explains to me that she has been very concerned about me and has been praying for me. So I said, " WHY?" She said, " I just think hearing voices is not normal and you really need to talk to your doctor."
So I said, " NO mom, I'm not hearing "VOICES" but when I speak, it is kind of magnified in my head." She says, " okay but still, it's not normal to hear voices in your head."
ROFL
I was laughing soooo hard that I couldn't even begin to explain it to her so my mother completely thinks I have gone nuts.

I know just what you are describing, and that is really funny that she misunderstood. It still sounds like she thinks you're decompensating - hasn't she ever gotten water in her ear?

Spriggy,
I love that story. I was reminded of Harry Potter when Hermione tells him "Harry, even in the wizzarding world, hearing voices is not a good sign".
From one who's experienced both phenomenon, I think you're quite safe.
Dee.

...to hear your own heartbeat in your eardrums?? I think it's inflamation due to seasonal allergies. In the past I treated with antihistamines every day, and now I wait for symptoms before taking a different type of AH. Meanwhile I have a delayed monitor in my ear making me feel like I'm screaming from inside a cave. No one can hear me and I can't hear them.
Don't want to go to an ENT specialist and be put on loads of drugs or given a hearing aide. I'm only 43, for goodness' sake.
But I have to pursue this. I can't hear most conversations aaround me unless they are conducted during complete silence.

I swear your mom and my mom are twins separated at birth!
They get an idea in their heads and there's no letting go, no matter how many different ways you try to explain.
I hope your voice is very sexy...
ROFL! ;~}
