When we were living in our last house we were hit by a tornado - twice. Needless to say, I'm glad we moved!

The first time was the worst. We had a closet under our stairs (which were in the center of the house) so we went in there with both our pets. It was tremendously loud and we heard stuff bouncing on the stairs above us. It was terrifying and we didn't know what would be left of the house once we opened the door. Miraculously, it wasn't as horrible as we imagined - a small bit of the roof had been torn away and what we'd heard was hail bouncing down the stairs!!

The second time wasn't bad and we weren't even home. Just a downed fence and a broken window.

No and don't want to be. That's a scarey thought! Fondly, Phillipa

My first memory is one of being in a tornado. We had no basement we went into the closet my mother was 9 months pregnant and the tornado destroyed the whole house. The only thing left standfing was the closet. My mother then went into labor and they rushed her to the nearest hospital which was 1 hour away. Thus, was born my sister Gwen. I do wonder, however, if the early childhood vision of terror has something to do with my current anxiety. hmmmm
anyway that is my story

Wow wildcard and rubenstein! That is so scary! I've had some close calls, but nothing where it went right over my house. There were some pretty bad ones that hit downtown a few years ago. I worked there at the time, and a co-worker told us about the tornado warning. I was like, but there's always tornado warnings and nothing ever happens. She convinced us to leave, and they hit just a few minutes later. I sat glued to the tv the rest of the night. I remember it was not long after 9/11, because it felt like deja vu sitting in front of the tv watching the scary stuff all night .

I always feel like tornados are living entities.
