At the risk of paraphrasing Sally Field. . .

Posted by Sarah T. on January 7, 2006, at 22:51:16

I think my cat loves me. She sits right next to me, staring at me, purring so loud. She looks right into my face, into my eyes! How does she know enough to look into my eyes? My other cat is very affectionate, too, but this one is just so human. Or maybe she's part puppy. Whatever she is, I love it!

Hi Wildcard,

I don't know what I'd do without my "girls" either. They are so comforting. Every once in a while, when I've had to board them at the kennel or the vet, I am so lonely. They have so much personality (or would that be "catonality")?

I know what you mean! My baby and I were pregnant together (what a sight)..lol She nuzzles me when I'm down and cry and I brush her when I can tell she's had one of those days. She understands me better than most people I know! I believe that cats help w/ depression and other illnesses...People were suprised when they saw her stocking!!

OK, so I had a dream last night that there was this lady who was suffering because she was involuntarily shapeshifting, like into wood, then iron, then fire, then ice, and it really hurt her. And my CAT saved her life. I don't know how but it involved jumping into the surf at our local beach. Maybe because she was willing to get wet for someone else?

So my cat is purr-ty special too. She has been specially snuggly because I've had a cold and am willing to be immobilized for long periods of time with her on my lap.

my cat loves me, too! She does the same thing; sits, purrs, looks at me. My husband says that sometimes when I'm asleep, the kitty jumps up by my head and watches me sleep, purring.

I think they DO love us.
Thanks, sally! (ha!)

Hi Clear Skies,

Hmmm. . . very interesting dream. I wonder whether it might have been inspired by the recent news about a cat that saved its owner's life by pressing the number on the phone that had been programmed to speed dial emergency services. According to the cat's owner, he trained the cat to push one number on the telephone and that speed dialed for an ambulance. I don't know all the details. Did you hear that story? It was in the news last week or the week before.

I hope you're feeling better. Cats are wonderful all the time, but they're especially comforting when you're not feeling well.

S.

Oops! Hi Wildcard. I just mentioned that in my reply to Clear Skies, but I didn't know much more about it.

Years ago, when I was away for a couple of days, my cat "answered" the phone, but she didn't say anything, and she didn't put the phone back on the hook! When I returned home, I found the phone off the hook. The next day, I spoke with a friend who said, "You know, the strangest thing happened the other day. I called you. Your phone rang, and then it stopped ringing, but nobody said anything. I hung up, called back, and the phone was busy! Every time I tried to call you for the rest of the weekend, the phone was busy." I thought that was so funny. My kitty had tried to answer the phone, but she couldn't speak, and without an opposable thumb, she couldn't pick up the phone and put it back on the hook.

Hi JenStar,

Oh, that's so cute. Does your cat actually sit on your head? When one of my cats was a kitten, she used to play with my hair when I was sleeping -- or TRYING to sleep! I think she thought my hair was actually a bunch of strings meant for batting around.

Hi Wildcard.

You potty-trained your cat? Wow! I'm impressed! I'm afraid that my cat's are long past the critical period when I could train them to do anything. They own the house and they own me.

I have no clue how it happened...moved to a new house and she had a kitty door per say and when we closed that off (remodeling), she started going to the door??? I can take no credit..lol
