A Christmas Tale With a Factual Twist

Posted by Nickengland on December 25, 2005, at 8:38:30

For some people, Christmas is a time where people get together, celebrate with company, drink lots, eat loads and have a generally really good time.

Some people get together and then actually feel more alone - than they would if they really was alone.

Some people really are all alone and seeing as they know that others are with people celebrating etc with familiy and close friends they can never feel more alone at a time like this....and just when they should really be feeling warm and in good sprits, the reverse happens..

I just wanted people to know who are feeling not so good on a day like this and are spending it without the company, the meal, the wine, the great company, the close people/person in their life ~ well, if you're reading this, it may not be much, but you're not alone - you got me for company (sh*t, now you probably feel worse! lol ;)

Oh well on a different note, I know some countires clelebrate Christmas more on Christmas eve...others celebrate (have the dinner open presents etc) to day on Christmas day, in the UK the main day is today - then we have boxing day tomorrow...not sure how many other countries have boxing day? Some countires just dont celebrate christmas...

Anyway, whichever day you're having today and even if its one where you feel really down and alone - you're not the only one, trust me.

Warm regards

Nick

Warm regards Nick.

I have family but they're not with me right now. The ex- is terrible about keeping appointments, about getting the children where they need to be when they need to ... I try not to feel any animosity towards him for being so careless, but it's hard, especially when he disrespects me so much. So I'll be spending my Christmas trying not to be angry, and forget about the *ss I was stupid enough to be with at one time, and be with my blood relations and their families tonight, eating yummy food and trying to take part in a hundred different conversations and watching so many dynamics it makes my head spin, but it's fun, until it gets too much, and pain I can't explain drives me away, until I get the courage to go and brave it all again. Whew. I wonder what it's like to be part of a family that has few negative undercurrents, where everybody can be open with everybody and honest and relaxed and there's no hidden animosity for things no one understands.

Sometimes its interesting drawing on some quotes from the legend John Lennon....

One of his many ones for peace was -

"All we are saying is give peace a chance."

:-) But then is also said -

"Reality leaves a lot to the imagination."

I guess on a day like this, this one sums it up for me...

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."

Great guy, I think he definitely rounded up whats going on even in this day and age..

Hope today brings you some Peace.

Hi Nick, I'm not home. Visiting at family my Sons' and I definitely know what you mean. You can be around a lot of people and still feel so alone. E-mail me if you can. I don't have my addresses with me and this computer is my Blind Son's and I really don't know how to use it. It won't even let me send a Babblemail. Love You Nick!

I wonder if that family exists?

Good words, especially the busy making other plans.
Have you ever looked at someone who you've known forever, and they have this look that tells you they feel they've missed something, and they know it isn't long now?
It was lovely, actually, being with people last night, I have a new understanding of them all, and me, and it makes a diff.

I don't know. Does anybody know of a family like that? I'll think about it. Right now the happiest family I know of, personally, deals with things on a moment-to-moment basis. Not completely happy 20-40% of the time, it's okay. Pretty good, five percent of that time, maybe even has high as twenty. So what's that work out to, out of a hundred possible, well, a hundred really ISN'T possible, unless you're a completely grateful and well-traveled person. Well-traveled, I think that's the key. Really and truly, you have to get out of yourself to be happy, so I don't know, I guess I equate animosity with unhappiness. Hmh. How much animosity is in your family?

I meant, of course, older people or people who are dying, who have that look, that life happened to them, they missed it .. It would be horrible to have that look, and it won't be happening to me.

I don't think a 100% happy famliy exists. Its seems the more you get to know someone the more skeletons appear but I think getting out of yourself is really important, and yup travel too. I guess it has to do with experience, the more you experience the more you understand? But no...not for everyone though. Less animosity does = more happiness. Maybe the happier you are the happier everyone can be. Do happy people make people happy or p*ss people off?
When I have a family everyone is going to be happy and everyone is going to love eveyone unconditionally and we will have no fights and no worries about where to spend holidays and everyone will like apple pie :)

Legwarmers sounds like the Donna Reed show. Guess you don't remember that. But everyone happy, laughing all the time is not reality. Well maybe it is here in Babbleland. Fondly, Phillipa

I DO remember my mother watching the Donna Reed show .. but you don't have to be laughing all the time to be a happy person. Even happy people feel sadness, nobody laughs all the time .. do they?
