I'm sitting in my pajamas on the balcony overlookineg busy Avenduida de Parallel drinking really good and really strong coffee. It's about 60 F and I'm looking at a palm tree for God's sake. We ate Catalunya cuisine last night near las Ramblas and drank cheap bad wine till we were told that we were too loud. We stayed up until 3 am cutting paper snowflakes. We will attend mass tonight in Eglise de Santa Maria del Mar hearing organ and choral music like others have here for centuries. For 52 years I have have Christmas with my parents. This year, things are a little different. Maybe I'll check in over the next couple weeks. Gotta go try and find a Christmas tree somewhere. Adios.

I've never been, but your post takes me there.

This dates me but I used to stay at the Pension Central, not far from the Ramblas, during my hippie days while Franco was still in power.
This hotel seemed to attract young travelers from all over the world. Lots of acid and exploring. We often took the overnight ferry to the islands.
Back then Ibiza had only one nightclub and wasn't built up at all. I lived on about $30.00 a month - probably the price of one beer now.
There's no sun like Mediterrean sun.

Be careful of Montezumas revenge! No ice cubes or fresh fruit vegtables, etc. What a lovely Christmas present that would be! Fondly, Phillipa

I can definitely see why a young person would hang out here for a while Verne. We've been having a blast. An English dude slipped me some Moroccan hash yesterday in a tavern. I'm saving it for the brief ski trip in the Pyrenees next week. Franco is like saying the other F word in Catalunya. They're like the Quebecoise here, proud separatists. Can't blame them, their taxes keeps Madrid afloat. Hell, we separated from England over the same thing. Then there was Franco outlawing the people from speaking their own Catalan language.
As for the beer, well it's about the same price as in the States, only twice as good.

I hope you and everyone are having a nice holiday also. Barcelona is exotic and there are some heavy family dynamics in play as well. So far all brush fires have been quickly extinguished. Tomorrow we head for the hills. It will be great to see some of provincial Spain. It is good for me to see my children as they are - young, mostly healthy adults, this despite their neurotic father. No computer for about 4 days. Hasta Luego.
