Since I've been failing miserably at my " question of the day" I'll just ask a gazillion questions and make up for it..
There are fun though- Christmas related (or "Happy Holidays" related, ROFL).
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?I like both of them- but I especially like hot chocolate with whipped cream on top.. Yum!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
When I was a kid, santa never wrapped gifts- which really confused me since my friend's would have their's wrapped? Anyway, now with our kid's, we wrap them... Oh, I mean "santa" wraps them.3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored lights. I think they look more "homey" and not quite as polished. That and EVERY house has white lights now so the suburban cookie-cutter homes look even more cookie-cutter.NOW, what kind do I have on my house and tree? white of course. ROFL But I let my kid's have colored on their tree in their room.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Are you kidding me? This man already won't keep his hands off me, I don't need him to have any other excuses.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Usually the day after Thanksgiving.6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
I really like green bean casserole.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
As dysfunctional as my childhood is, I do have good memories from Christmas (which makes me think my parent's really did *try*). I have lots- probably though the year that I got a television and the remote control was in the shape of a mini tv as well. I think I was 11.8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? The same way most kid's find out- some other dumb kid at school blows the "gig" and pronounces, " Santa is not real." and being the dork that I was, I said, " OF course he is." I'll ask my mom tonight. So I asked- and she told me the truth. I'll never forget sitting near the living room window looking out at the sky at night crying in disbelief. How could it be?? I still cry sometimes over that. ROFL
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Me and hubby put the kid's to bed and light candles and open our gift's to each other on CHristmas eve- alone. That way Christmas day is all about the kiddo's.10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? When I was a kid, it was Oreo's. But my children insist on home made cookies! And of course, carrots for the reindeer.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love snow! Yahoo for white Christmas!12. Can you ice skate?
It depends.. is getting up for 4 seconds before falling back on your butt count as ice skating? If so... then yes. I am really good.13. Do you remember your favorite gift? As a kid- probably my cabbage patch dolls when I was 8. As an adult, probably my pearl ring our first married Christmas.
14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Now the most important thing to me is my faith. Used to be about presents etc, but now I really see the holidays as a time of worship and contemplation and reflection. And of course, family.15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pecan pie.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
putting up the tree; we play Bing Crosby's Christmas cd, make hot chocolate, bake cookies, and deck the hall's. For one brief moment, we have one of those magical-waaay too traditional American family moment's. But I love it.
17. What tops your tree?
A star. I'm not a fan of the angels.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving? Honestly, I like them both. I won't try to sound so unselfish and say, " I Only love to give." I do love giving but I find myself feeling about 10 years old again when I have a wrapped gift in my lap with MY name on it. I won't lie.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? O Holy Night20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
I dig candy canes. Old fashioned red one's only. None of this new neon/sour crap.

Hee hee they are fun. Here are my answers
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Egg nog at Chistmas because it's more Christmasy
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
We would get one gift from Santa and if it was big, it wasn't wrapped, but if it was small it might be wrapped, or just hidden in the tree
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
It really depends on the house. at home, we have white lights on our memory tree outside, and coloured lights around the roof, and coloured lights on our tree inside
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
What's the point.. no guys ever come here anyways...
So I guess that would a no5. When do you put your decorations up?
Well the snowmen go up in the kitchen around remembrance day, and the tree and all don't go up until about the 20th cuz around then school gets out and all that6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Pineapple, yams, and marshmallow things. My cousin and I named them this past thanksgiving, but now I totally forget their name7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
Probably the year that it dumped snow on us, and we (my family) went out play in it, and my dad piled the snow from the driveway and helped us make the awesomest fort. Then my sis and I iced it so it would last longer8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
One boxing day, my best friends (and their families) came over and we were at that age, wondering if he was real or not. They had brought their santa responces with them, and we got samples of our parents handwriting, and talked it all over. We went out to ask the mom's and my mom said "what do you think" and we went back to my room to deliberate some more, and later came back and said we thought he wasn't true, they said "shhhh don't tell the little sisters"9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Nopers10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? The kinds we make with our mom

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Both. With rum. Lots of rum. How about hot buttered rum.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa Cat leaves toys and treats in their stocking on the mantle.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored ones. I have those really old fashioned looking big ones on the house. I hung them myself and didn't fall off the ladder.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
I think I packed last years away to hang this year. Hey, so what it's dried out, nobody gets that close to it, right?
5. When do you put your decorations up?
The outside lights went up December 2. We got a tree last Sunday which is sitting undecorated because I'm on babble. The cleaning isn't done either. Oh well, those pine needles clean themselves up magically anyway.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Fruit salad with bananas, apples and oranges.
7 & 8 Favorite Holiday memory as a child? When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Not to be depressing, but I really don't have a favorite holiday memory. My evil older brother told his entire kindergarten class there was no Santa, so I never had a chance to believe. Darn him.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
No, we've always been Christmas morning openers.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
I think this year Santa Cat is getting pounce treats. He always gobbles them up by morning so I know he really comes each year.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love watching it fall. Hate shoveling it. I wish it could magically melt when it hits the ground.
12. Can you ice skate?
I haven't tried it since I was 12. I remember skating on my ankles and once I could get pm tje blades not being able to stop without running into a snowbank. Or falling on my butt. Or falling onto another skater creating the domino effect.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Geez I'm old. It was Baby First Step. This was in the 1960s and she actually walked by herself (thanks to batteries.) She made this funny motor sound, but I didn't care- she walked like a real baby did.
14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?Champagne.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Cut out cookies with lots of frosting.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Watching A Christmas Story. Will Ralphie get his Red Ryder air rifle? The anticipation is building already.
17. What tops your tree?A blue glass spiral.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
I agonize over both, but receiving is less stressful.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
traditional song- Silver Bells
nontraditional- I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake.20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Yum. The good old red and white peppermint ones.

Totally ROFL about the "champagne."
Ha ha ha ha..
AND I LOVE The Christmas story- my husband thinks I'm weird because I love it so much; it's my favorite Christmas movie. He likes " White Christmas" and " It's a Wonderful life."
It would be more like me to enjoy the dysfunctional ones like National Lampoon's and the Christmas story. ROFL
Favorite part is the kid stickin' his tongue to the pole. I've seen it a hundred times and still laugh a good ole' belly laugh at that.

> 1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?Egg nog. My mother complained to my pediatrician that the only milk I would drink was egg nog. He told her to give me egg nog.
> 2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa has just too many houses to deliver to. My husband and I have told him that he doesn't need to wrap the ones to our house. :)
> 3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Lights? I think my husband put some up last year. That's the first time ever in my life.
> 4. Do you hang mistletoe?
In my family of origin, we had a plastic mistletoe ball. But we never used it for its intended purpose.
> 5. When do you put your decorations up?
Used to be no later than December 1. Now no later than December 24. We've got our tree, though, and I think it looks perfectly lovely in its natural state.
> 6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Yorkshire pudding. Hands down.
> 10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?Gingerbread. Not gingerbread cookies. Gingerbread.
We usually put out Shredded Wheat for the reindeer, but this year my son made some sugarry reindeer treats.
> 11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it. Rarely get it.
> 12. Can you ice skate?
Nope
> 13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
No. I loved them all. The small pinball machine maybe? Because Daddy liked to play it too.
> 14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
I used to love everything about it.
> 15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Gingerbread. Although we used to love McKenzie's lemon meringue pie after an overly large serving of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding.
> 16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?Christmas Eve midnight mass. No one in the family is Catholic anymore so I don't get a chance to go. And the TV Christmas specials - especially the Grinch.
> 17. What tops your tree?
A star.
> 18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?Giving.
> 19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? O Holy Night
Well, if you discount the Who song, that'd be right up there. I sang it solo in my Middle School Christmas concert, and actually hit the high note. Daddy was sure I'd miss it. :)

> 20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?Eh. They're ok. I prefer gum drops (except the black ones.

The question about Santa wrapping gifts is a good one? I had that question this year. When I was young, my presents from Santa were never wrapped. I figure that if Santa wraps my little ones' presents, then it will have to be with wrapping paper that my kids have not seen around the house. So I guess Santa will not wrap the gifts. He will just put them under or by the tree.
Merry Christmas. oh, by the way, if a store does not allow its employees to say Merry Christmas, I will not shop there.

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate is better. I had egg nog once and it completely grossed me out. But then again it was cold, and I don't think it's supposed to be served cold....
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa wraps our presents. This was one of the great traditions of my childhood, waiting for the presents to go under the tree. They sat there for a week or two, and my brother and I spent hours shaking them and discussing what might be inside.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
For the last 7 years or so, we've had colored lights on the house and the stairway bannisters, and white lights on the tree.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?Nope. I never will either. It's a liability.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
Usually the first or 2nd week of December. It's agains the law at our house to put them up before Thanksgiving or keep them up through January.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
My mom's cheesy potatos. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Sugar cookies with frosting. Just between everyone and myself, I think my dad ate them after we went to bed.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Considering that we never get it, I think we'd all probably love it.
12. Can you ice skate?
Um. Kinda.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
My fiance gave me a gold heart pendant with 5 diamonds in the center. It was the first piece of really nice jewelry I owned.
14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Everyone stopping their routines and being together.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
I love coffee and something chocolate and semi-sweet.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
The candelight Christmas Eve service.
17. What tops your tree?A star.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Giving, but I so do love receiving....
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Oh come, Oh come Emmanuel20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
They're okay. I put them in hot chocolate but you won't catch me eating them plain.

> 1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
The nod goes to the nog.> 2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
In the Old Days, some were left unwrapped. Under New Administration, all are wrapped. Including at least one Trick Wrapped® gift. E.g. something light and small wrapped in a big box with rocks at the bottom, for decoy effect. Or, 11 layers of bubble wrap. Bubble wrap's a gift too, right?
> 3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Coloured. Note the 'u'.
> 4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No.
> 5. When do you put your decorations up?
Gosh, dang, Christmas Eve if it comes to it. It is therefore more respectful to the importance of the Christmas Spirit that the ornaments/tree occasionally remain up until March, to compensate.
> 6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Turkey with stuffing and gravy.
> 7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
The train set. Getting up and finding out that Santa had even warmed it up! Yes! The transformer was still warm to the touch.
> 8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Never really believed that story in the first place.
> 9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
No, not lately.
> 10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Chocolate chip! Oreos? The horrors!
> 11. Snow!
Dread.
> 12. Can you ice skate?
Since I broke my tailbone 25 years ago, the question has become moot.

A leather briefcase. I never would have bought one, and couldn't do without it from the moment I first used it.
> 14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family.
> 15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
My grandma used to make this clear gooey peppermint sauce, over vanilla ice cream. It was just the most exotic thing I had ever seen.
> 16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Just being together. All scrubbed and dressed and fed and together.
> 17. What tops your tree?
A gold angel.
> 18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Giving. It's a good thing. Don't get much of the other.
> 19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
Silent Night.
> 20. Candy Canes!
Red and white peppermint. Accept no substitutions.

Oh she did put a lot of work into it, she opened up that bottle which *was* a lot of work cause it has all that wire and tinfoil over the cork that had printed on it in little green letters
"Creme de Menthe" liqueur..
When we lived back East, my mom used to make that same very sauce to put over vanilla ice cream.
However, just to prove that I'm not a complete b*tch I'll swap a story.
My Grandfather who was in his 90's used to send us the best shortbread every year. It was so good.
And we'd think how amazing that was that he was in his 90's and still making that shortbread.Well the year he died,
But that ****SUPER SPOOKY**** Christmas we still got a box of shortbread. His wife Mary sent it to us. It turned out they'd been buying it at the bakery across the street.

> When we lived back East, my mom used to make that same very sauce to put over vanilla ice cream. No, it wasn't like that.
It was thick, about like corn syrup, and she had this beat up little pot she made it in. It was served a little warm, still, because I remember how it melted the ice cream, and then set up. Well, after it cooled, it was about like corn syrup.
I do remember now, watching it being made. A drop into cold water? Testing it? I dunno. It was magic to me.
My grandma didn't have booze in the house. Oh, that reminds me of another Christmas, over at our house. Grandma didn't know the punch was spiked. She kept going back for more.

Hi Spriggy,
I've got the book A Christmas Story is taken from and so much of the dialog is right out of it. "In God We Trust All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd.
I was too smart of a kid to stick my tongue to a lamp post, but as a dumb adult I did set off a bottle rocket in a full bottle of champagne and then took a swig. Sulpher tastes bad. Very bad.
