I'm a total nut. I really like Christmas carols (Hark the Herald Angels Sing and so on) but I can't stand all the 'Jingle Bell Rock' stuff.

I'm very old-fashioned...

ARTIST: John Lennon
TITLE: Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

{Refrain}
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas War is over
For weak and for strong If you want it
For rich and the poor ones War is over
The road is so long Now
And so happy Christmas War is over
For black and for white If you want it
For yellow and red ones War is over
Let's stop all the fight Now

{Refrain}

And so this is Christmas War is over
And what have we done If you want it
Another year over War is over
And a new one just begun Now
And so happy Christmas War is over
I hope you have fun If you want it
The near and the dear one War is over
The old and the young Now

{Refrain}

War is over if you want it
War is over now

I go crazy over christmas music. I love it all!!! I love the carol like hymns and the new stuff. I love it all. I'm going through withdrawl right now, as I can't download any music, and I don't have any christmas CD's. I have the NYSYC CD ripped to my computer, but it's not terribly good

Christmas In Hollis
by Run D.M.C.
hear a clip here: http://tinyurl.com/cq7ez

It was December 24th on Hollis Ave in the dark
When I seen a man chilling with his dog in the park
I approached very slowly with my heart full of fear
Looked at his dog, oh my God, an ill reindeer
But then I was illin because the man had a beard
And a bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared
So I turned my head a second and the man had gone
But he left his driver's wallet smack dead on the lawn
I picket the wallet up then I took a pause
Took out the license and it cold said "Santa Claus"
A million dollars in it, cold hundreds of G's
Enough to buy a boat and matching car with ease
But I'd never steal from Santa, cause that ain't right
So I'm going home to mail it back to him that night
But when I got home I bugged, cause under the tree
Was a letter from Santa and all the dough was for me

It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens
Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens
Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheese
And Santa put gifts under Christmas trees
Decorate the house with lights at night
Snow's on the ground, snow white so bright
In the fireplace is the yule log
Beneath the mistle toe as we drink egg nog
The rhymes you hear are the rhymes of Darryl's
But each and every year we bust Chrsitmas carrols
(Christmas melodies)

Rhymes so loud and prod you hear it
It's Christmas time and we got the spirit
Jack Frost chillin, the orchas out?
And that's what Christmas is all about
The time is now, the place is here
And the whole wide world is filled with cheer

My name's D.M.C. with the mic in my hand
And I'm chilling and coolin just like a snowman
So open your eyes, lend us an ear
We want to say

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I was a little kid when that came out but it is a classic. There are so many but Frosty and The Chipmunks Christmas make me smile. I really like Angels Among Us by Alabama....There are too many~I give up!

Same here. We did a Christmas hymnsing after decorating the church a few weeks ago, and it was just wonderful. Probably one of the few things which keeps me relatively unbitter about the holidays.

My favourite song would be either "What Child is This?" or "O Holy Night," though I prefer the French words to the latter.

It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime

But say a prayer

Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
(Here's to them) underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world

Feed the world

Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

I have always loved that song but the part where 'Well Tonight Thank God it's them instead of you' just seems wrong imo when I hear it?? I know they didn't mean to sound cold and it may just be me..it's still a very touching song ;~)

I always loved the Boar's Head Carol. I'm told hit really rocked the charts in the late 15th century.

Not to mention the catchy lyrics:
Caput apri defero,
Reddens laudes Domino

That sounds great. I'd like to go to something like that. There must be something similar coming up at my church...

> My favourite song would be either "What Child is This?" or "O Holy Night," though I prefer the French words to the latter.

I don't think I've sung either of those before, but I looked them up and they're lovely.

My favourite is "O little town of Bethlehem" to the tune St Louis (I think that's the tune people usually sing it to).

Yeah~Certain Christmas songs make you realize what's important. Wasn't that the 'Hands across America'? or something similar w/ all the celebrities of the 80's? I was so young that I didn't get the full meaning then but it hits now! I may have went w/o food growing up a few days sometimes but nothing like others. I hope you're doing good sleepy!

I can't believe no one has listed this one! Its a classic!

"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

Christmas day is in our grasp
So long as we have hands to clasp

I'm sure it's the timing and the associations, but I always cry at the end when the Grinch listens and hears them singing. So I love that song.

It's funny how I can't think of a Christmas song right now.

I do like the Chanukah song "Oh, Chanukah, Oh, Chanukah" and "Havah nagilah"

I remember how much I liked to sing them in the school glee school in grade 4. We also sang lots of Christmas songs.
