i hate to read

Posted by lynn971 on October 20, 2005, at 20:13:12

I am a teacher and I hate to read. I teach math.

If a post is long, I tend to only skim through it. I am sorry. That is terrible.

Hi CT
The tomatoe (that doesn't look right, shades of Dan Quayle) sauce bottle on the table, the toilet paper wrapping on the loo, anything at all before going to sleep. Even when I can't read at all I'm still reading fragments. Having a blood test I read some of Isaiah (lots of curses), Psalms, but I had problems reading that so went for Job which is always a reliable standby.

Your hair is like a flock of goats descending Mount Gilead.

Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing.

Each has its twin: not one of them is alone.

(I am really glad to hear she has all of her teeth... ROFL!)

I know many teachers who hate to read. However, that is one fact about a teacher that a student should never find out.

It's not terrible, but you don't know what you're missing. (in books I mean).

On the other hand - I have recently started (since not working) helping my 7 year old son with homework - and that includes math.

He thinks it is quite funny that I check his multiplication tables with a calculator!!

If you have any tips on making math interesting for a kid of this age - I am all ears!!

If it's math you're referring to I've always hated it. Adding and subtracting you can see. Visualize. But algebra is to abstract for me. Fondly, Phillipa

use candy as the numbers :-) skittles can be groups of numbers, make it visual and then everytime he has success OR he tries really hard he gets some money or something that he can save up to get a toy. But he has to figure out how much he needs and if he has enough $$

use really loud and flashy flashcards

get those educational talking books for math, all those froggy things. Hopefully someone knows what Im referring to :-)

oh and gasp!! calculator??
