First appt with psychiatrist.

I found one. My first appt is Nov. 21, 2005. I have never been to one before.

The receptionist assured me that I would like him. I am excited and nervous all at one time.

Do you guys have any pointers/suggestions.

Relax! Just keep telling yourself this person is really no different than you are, it's just the job that's different. I hope you like him!

Be honest and be yourself. He can not help you if you are not true to yourself and him. You would only be lying, wasting his time, and your money. He is there to help you and help you through whatever ails you. Sometimes we need additional help besides our friends and family; even those closest to us. Sometimes, we don't even know we need help, lie to ourselves that we aren't that bad off, when in actuallity, we are burnt out like a roasted marshmallow on a hot log that can't be truly saved. It is awesome that you are taking this step, it tells you that you are ready to take charge of your condition and the battles before you....

Hi Lynn,

Don't worry about being nervous. Be prepared for lots of questions, including do you see or hear things that aren't there, do you have thoughts of...

I've survived two first pdoc visits and the hardest thing is answering all the questions. I answered honestly, including that I won't talk about childhood trauma. Neither one pushed me which I really appreciate.

I hope you do like him and that you are comfortable talking to him. I don't feel safe anywhere, but did tell both of them things that normally I only share on babble.

Good luck. You will make it through this just fine.
