It was such a lovely day I thought it a pity to get up.

Interesting quote, Phil... It was a lovely day here, too, but I got up anyway. The good news is that it stayed mostly lovely.

How long have you been an Emmylou fan? I really love her voice, but I only have 1 CD. It is her Christmas CD, "By the light of the Stable" or something like that.

Have a great night-

My memory is blurry before "79 but I think I was a fan prior to that. Her fairly recent CD, "Spyboy"
was really good.

Hey, I haven't heard of him, but I listened to some clips on Amazon, and he makes me think of Willie Nelson a little.

I really like the bluegrassier stuff Emmylou has done- the Christmas album of hers is really good- if you like CHristmas music at all.

Just throwin' this out there- ya'll might like this group, from this area. "Robinella"
Listen if you get a chance. They are a mix of bluegrass and jazz- ya'll might like 'em.

Ya'll have a great week!

Music, music--everywhere, music.

Jimmie Dale had a bit part in Sling Blade--little trivia there.
Great singer. Another Lubbock to Austin to the world transplant.

ZH- Sorry, there may have been a misunderstanding... Robinella is from the Knoxville, TN area. I am not in Texas. But I visited Houston once. :)

Does that mean you're not a Texan but play one on the Internet? ;)

Spooked around Austin this summer. Gorgeous town with so much to do and see. Friendly folks too =)

Thank you for music tip. Always helps to broaden horizons and allow the healing power of music in. Thanks for geographic clarification too.

I am no Texan, (afraid I am Tennessee through and through) and didn't MEAN to play one on the internet!! LOL I'd like to visit Texas again. I am sure the music scene is great! I want to go do the Ride for the Roses, a bicycle ride for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Intended to do it this year, but things didn't work out.
Hope you are having a great night.

I'd love to spend some time in Tennessee. Have a real good friend that moved there a few years back.
Maybe I could drive Emmylou's tour bus. Woohoo!!
I'm going to Graceland, Graceland....

Phil we'd love to have you here in the Volunteer State.

I am ashamed to say I have never been to Graceland. I have driven by there but not done the tour thing. And I call myself a Southerner... It's a disgrace.

Memphis is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I am a hillbilly. I spent 5 years in the flat farm country of northwest TN, and was so glad to get back to the hills after that! How is the topography in and around Austin?

I hope ZH didn't take offense to my comparison between Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Willie Nelson. Certainly I didn't mean any.

WHen I visited Houston I loved it! Everyone was so friendly! It was a beautiful city, but I was only there for a weekend so I didn't really get to see much.

Have a great day!

I've heard Memphis is pretty rough, so to speak.
Austin is in the heart of the Texas hill country and is really a beautiful town. Very different and more liberal than most of Texas. Not a bit like Houston, thank God. Lots of spring fed swimming holes and Lake Travis, which is huge.

Phil, that spring fed pool looks and sounds cool (OK, there is a pun...)! Do you go there often? I guess it is open year round (I only scanned the article- maybe it said).

http://www.ci.maryville.tn.us/webcam/webcam.htm

There is a link to a live webcam of my town. You can't tell much about it from that perspective, but the area has GREAT parks. There is a greenway with a paved trail that stretches for 8 or 10 miles between 2 communities here. It is very clean and well maintained. I usually go walk 3 miles every morning. Slacking today, but plan to run tonight.

I grew up in the Chattanooga area, and really consider that my home. Chattanooga has some great tourist stuff- IMAX theater and Tennessee Aquarium for starters. I like it much better than Knoxville. But I must say I am completely ou tof the music loop there.

I gotta run for now. Have a great day!

PS Phil, what is your job? (nosiness is showing, isn't it?)

Cool, about telecommunications. I used to work for the state, at the university. The hours and benefits were great. And telecommunications can be interesting stuff. I did a little bit of computer repair when at the university. I didn't love it, but it taught me a lot and kept me on my toes...

A drummer, eh? I played the sax all through high school and college. Did the whole gig, marching band, concert band, jazz band, but was a good support player- not the type to be out front. REALLY miss it now, but who has time?

Enjoying getting to know you...

Must be hard to train with the youngun' around. What a great cause to ride for. Being in Austin during the tour it was fun to see yellow banners hanging everywhere and signs painted in the road "ALLEZ LANCE!!"

Here's hoping you make it next year or very soon thereafter....as they will always need fund raising efforts to support research for these diseases.

None at all. Being compared to Willie would be a compliment to most any musician.

Things that *do* offend me? Double talk with one thing said in public yet another in private......a passive aggressive way of control when a person usually feels none. People who disregard what facts they know for the unsubstianted rumours raised by minds steeped in mental illness since those rumours are far juicier than the truth. People who are cruel to animals. Liars.....people who lie to your face instead of being honest and dealing with feeling a little discomfort. Learning to be honest with oneself and with others takes time and with disease and illnesses that time can be stretched out way into ppl's late thirties, forties and beyond. Our experience has been that those who are so wed to their illnesses and unwillingness to remain treatment compliant will keep lying to themselves and others until they can admit truth inside themselves. We find offence at being around people who believe, either from illness or choice, the above behaviours are okay.

A comparison of Jimmie Dale Gilmore to Willie Nelson does not even approach the nature of offensive things.

Hope your wknd is going well.

ZH- Good, I am so glad to hear it. It is usually safer to say "no offense intended" around these parts than NOT to say it, and have someone react in some unexpected way...

Having an OK weekend so far. Kiddo is napping so I'm good for another few minutes anyway...

And as for training for the ride... I figure I could go do 15 miles or so without doing much training, but more than that and I would definitely have to practice. I think I read on the website that you can ride any distance you like..?

I bet it was cool seeing the LA banners everywhere. Did you watch the coverage? In July I am addicted. Hope I will get as much coverage next year... THink LA will ride again?
