Dallas homes 10000 people at reuinin arena center

Posted by rjlockhart98 on September 2, 2005, at 18:57:33

There are people coming in like swarms, the Maximum cap. is 25000 with Fort Worth assisting.

I have never seen this before. people are yelling help to reporters on the news where are there children, husbands, crying. Dallas just build a new convention center, which goes underground roads, I hope it doesnt get trashed.

I dont know what to do but to pray. Some people may stay here, for good. High Schools are being used, they are opening an old St. Josephs Hospital becuase there is over crowding.

I hope this doesnt have a negitive effect to the poverty levels to rise in Dallas.

I certainly appreciate the warmth and compassion shown by the government of Texas, and the majority of Texans.

I will never forget the evacuation for Georges, where a couple at a Tyler Texas insisted on paying for our meal.

We experienced nothing but the best of Texas hospitality.

The news said they are bringing people to St. Louis, too.

Wow! I did realize just how many people live in and around New Orleans. Our little town is now congested with traffic. I waited 20 minutes today at the bank. We just got a Super Walmart. We are not used of city life. Now there are people going to your state too, Theresa.

The houston's astrodome is being used, i dont know how many it is providing, its many but i dont know what overcrowding is going on.

Dallas just started getting people at the Reunion Arena Center, and the Convention Center. I dont know if the American Airlines Center is going to be used. Fort Worth near Dallas can hold I belive a 1000, when the buses arived they where welcomed with cheers of welcome. The Dallas ISD school system is going to be overloaded. This is really a hit.

There are people outside are confused, devested, crying, angry, a woman had an emotional breakdown on the news becuase she has lost her kids.

St Joseph's Hostiptal i belive is mandantory to be opened, (its decommisioned) to make room. Its old, barren, electricty i dont know is going to be its best.

My concern is what is going to happen, there are two problems, poverty level may rise, and crime. I hope this doesnt destroy Dallas. But what ever is needed should be done. Texas is a big state.

Warm concern

Matt

Yeah, they are receiving survivors. Heard some about it on the radio today, but still trying to find out more accurate details.

I can't do anything involving giving $$, beyond the very small donation I made to the RC. But maybe, living a few minutes from St. Louis, I can find some volunteer opportunity that I can manage. The gas back and forth - believe it or not - might be a problem (have an old, not-so-efficient vehicle..dang it!)

I want to do something now!!

BTW, CT, if you remember from a thread a while back, I'm a ways south of you here in the Metro-East, and we have one gas station up to $3.17 already today! Give me a break....

oops, I meant up to $3.70, not $3.17 (nm)

Houston is opening the convention center and Reliant center to take in more. And there are now about 18000 apartments being made available.

Schools are taking in the kids, and universities are taking misplaced students.

Donations are piling up.

Plus some of the volunteers are taking people home with them.

I love my town.

Me too. :)

My son's sister schools have offered placement to kids displaced from our school. I'm not sure that we'll be able to find a place for him, but if we can, we'll be your neighbor for a while.

(BTW, Matt, we will be self sufficient.)

I've never been to Texas, but the generousity is so heart-warming in the midst of complete sadness. Thank you Texas!! In order not to be depressed 24/7 about what people are living through, it's nice to hear about the good things.

Don't forget Austin, San Antonio and probably every city in between who have opened their arms to these refugees.
I work for the State in telecommunications. I'm on call this weekend to provide 200 phones for our agency should the governor decide to set up an expanded phone bank in further response to this tragedy.

San Antonio has said they could take? 25000? The airlines are flying people from LA to there.

And Austin is taking in a good number, too. I don't recall the figure.

Even the smaller places - Tyler, Beaumont, etc, are making as much room as they can.

Good luck Phil! (nm) » Phil

AuntieMel

I think it says a lot about how much this state loves New Orleans and the people of Louisiana. I'm proud to see so many coming to Texas. Heck, we've got plenty of elbow room here. : )

As Lyle Lovett says: That's right you're not from Texas - But Texas wants you anyway

At this point, Austin is housing 5000 to 7000 at the downtown Convention Center. All events have been canceled for the next several months and showers and dressing rooms are being constructed.

We're pretty resilent down here. And I don't know of anyone who doesn't have some connection with Louisiana. They're our next door neighbors!

Regardless, whatever the outcome, good or bad, it had to be done. I certainly wouldn't be able to live with the alternative - not helping. Besides, we won't be near as bad off as New Orleans when its all over.

Not to by any means compare my troubles with those of the evacuees, but I can't help but think about how jobs are going to become very scarce around here. That is going to suck so bad! I wonder what other repercussions there will be.

We're living in weird times.

Citi Trends in our little town was robbed yesterday. What a world. what a world.
