Thankless Job

Posted by Dominique on August 26, 2005, at 19:50:05

Why is it that you can try so hard at succeeding, yet for some reason always fail? You can do all you can to do the task at hand, complete deadlines, become overly qualified as asked, stay late, show up w/o pay, be a mentor to others, and still get kicked down by the people above you.... Why???????????? I love my job, but that last few weeks have been an all time low in productivity. Paperwork goes across people's desk and sit there for two days, things get overlooked, and you are up a creek w/o a paddle. Yet, if something sat on your desk for two hours, you received it this morning, but the office heads are saying that it was due two days ago; you get blamed for it.... WHy???? How???????? How is it so hard to be a good boss? A person obviously should have been trained for the job; but, as we know that doesn't always happen... Its Friday! I should be happy that the work week is over; yet, all that I can think about is the rough week myself and coworkers had, and how it will be again next week.
Nightmares are now regular every night; stress levels high; and tension is strong.

I definitely know where you're coming from - believe me! I'm the queen of thankless jobs. One thing I've figured out in life is that if your job is making you miserable, you dread going to work everyday, have nightmares about it, and are feeling a physical reaction from all the stress (yes I've experienced all); its time for a new job. I know the unknown can be scary, but in my experience, its better to take a chance at getting another bad job than to stay at one you 'know' is bad. One thing I have to remind myself over and over is, if life sucks, change it!

Of course, if you realize you're taking job after job trying to find the perfect one, then you may want to re-examine the situation and see what's really making you so unhappy.

I hope things get better for you! :-)
I'm routing for you.

Thanks for responding Tex. Let me change my line... I love my occupation, but for the moment hate my job. Reason being: People above are very poor choosers when it comes to hiring the position above mine. Thus, in the 5 years I've been working here, I have gone through 4 people just above me. And the last two have just created such friction/broken up our functional ability as coworkers. Thats the frustrating part! That position should know everyone else's job position, yet doesn't even know workers job description let alone assignments.
VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
