And she'd always invite us to dinner and let us raid the fridge because there's more in hers than mayonaise and a sprouting onion.

i know, right? that IS a nasty trick. that would require -- oh dear -- getting out a recipe and buying other ingredients and preheating the oven and god only knows what else.i bet dinah makes banana bread every day.
(i think i'm getting into some transference now with my dinah mommy fantasy.)

I think she does, and I think she fixes you a little snack if you are sad too, and she makes peanut butter sandwiches just the right way.. and she says "you're lovely just the way you are" and "everything is going to be okay, you'll see" and "if you'd just quit leaving your stuff lying around maybe you could find it when you need it" and "where have my good scissors gone"?Maybe we both have mommy fantasies..

Me too, no wonder she's so private about where she lives, no unexpected dinner guests.
I never think of myself as funny, it's weird when people say that, but I like it. I stayed a friends house for months once, a couple of years ago, and even though the house was really small and I had usurped their living room, she said it was worth it because it was like having Spalding Grey on the couch.
That made me really happy (ironically)

You know I joined just after Sar died, but I think of her so often. She was so special, I just couldn't believe anyone could truly be as enchanting and beautiful as everyone was saying she was. But all I had to do was read what she'd written.
I almost feel it's sacrilege to say this because I didn't know her, but I think about her almost every day.
I can't imagine what it must have been like knowing her and losing her.
She was magic.

I feel the same way. I was only a lurker then. If my memory serves me correctly, we both started posting about the same time. I wish I had the nerves to have posted to her---forever my loss. I've reread and reread her posts so they are always fresh.

I was lurking some at the time when the "Freaking CHickens" thread was up. I don't remember what it was REALLY all about. Funny how some of the posters here I feel like I know a little. Who was that who always had such far-out posts?
I haven't seen a lot of Phil lately. Or Mar. Was it gabbi who used to use the VERY strange characters in her posts?

I think a few of us did (have far out posts) but I think perhaps you're thinking of Dreamer/Slinky but it was Tabitha and Jonathan who used to use the very strange characters in their subject headings sometimes.

You are right- it was Tabitha that I remember. I guess the good far-out stuff is on the other board now, where I haven't ventured yet. I could REALLY get lost in there, I bet.

rofl. that's what you think!!!
I used to cook for my family of origin all the time. But my husband and son don't like anything I cook. :( And my husband does the shopping. Thank heavens for takeout.

It really spiced my life up to have someone so talented with erotic fruit literature.

I loved to write in grammar school, but having a few overwraught plays and short stories rightfully scorned made me sort of ashamed of it. So it means an extra lot to have you say that.
My son was voted most likely to write a novel in his elementary school class, so maybe the dream will live on. :)

it sucks how criticism can inhibit us. i'm sure even the best writers wrote a few duds, especially in grade school. it's not like everything that flows from your fingers can be perfect. but i do really think you are gifted, dinah, and that if you wrote a book, i would thoroughly enjoy reading it, and it would probably make me laugh. (hopefully, you'd be trying to be funny, but sometimes i think you are also funny without trying.)

:-)
I think I am frequently funny without trying, but often without trying *not* to be either. If that makes any sense.
