Very upsetting visit apart from the stellar visit with justyourlaugh. Dr Bob, we'll get her paintings on this site by hook or by crook. Sorry to see you ran out of building photos! Yikes!! Was this reflected off of a chrome bumper or what???!!!
Feel like doggy doo. Have been sleeping like Rumplestiltskin for the past few days, and still tired. Quite depressed; I'll compile the complete list tomorrow.
Ah well. Root canal at 7:30am tomorrow morning, then we'll see how it goes.
It's so good to see you all here again.
missed everyone massively,

Glad to see you home.
Not much we can do about the root canal, or other concrete problems. But we'll do our best with the lifting spirits part.

Ahhh PC ... sorry your feeling down. Yuck!!
I had a root canal on Friday ... not fun ... worse of all, I went in for a re-check on a tooth that has been bothering me since MAY, and the root canal specialist said "today is the day". I was shocked because it was my 4th visit to the guy and he thought the tooth was "calming down". But in my heart of hearts, I knew it was getting worse since the last visit.Sorry to digress ... your home now (and "Emily" isn't heading your way) so hopefully things can start picking up. Thinking of you -

Hi pc. The reason I knew it was Rip Van Winkle is that, ever since I was a child, I have often confused those two names. Aren't they wonderful names? Oh, and let's not forget "Ichabod Crane."
I hope you're feeling much better by the time you read this.

Hi pc,
Well, I don't think I could eat carrots if I'd just had a root canal. I don't know where you live, but if you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have some very good pureed fruit products, such as pureed mango, apple sauce with pureed apple and cinnamon, and several other delicious fruit compote-type products. How about yogurt? Do you like yogurt? I was thinking that soft foods might be best for a few days. And although they're not very nutritious, I always like to have saltines and ginger ale around when I'm not feeling well.

I thought that ginger ale and saltines were in their own food group!! That "makes anything feel better" group.
Thanks, Sarah. Feels slightly better today.

Hi PC
Today I had the first appointment following my root canal to get the tooth restore via a crown. My tooth is a back molar and this procedure was very uncomfortable. Maybe I was just unaware, so I wasn't mentally prepared. But I was there for 2 1/2 hours (the dentist told me I'd be there 90 minutes) and tears just streamed down my puffy cheeks.I hope your experience goes better. My T has been on vacation for 2 weeks, so maybe I'm a little emotional more than usual. But afterwards I got into my car and had myself a good cry. I couldn't even drive. THEN ... even more shocking, when I was finally able to drive, I left the parking structure, and the little old lady in the booth asked me "did you hear they bombed London again? I don't like the British." I knew I wasn't thinking clearly and not sure I heard her correctly and said, "Excuse me?" And she repeated her absurb racist comment.
I wish I had GG's list fresh in my mind, but I did retort "I can't believe you could say such a thing, you have a problem." And drove off.
Anyway, I've taken motrin and a pain killer and I don't think I can sleep. I'd rather have another root canal. And my husband is away on business. And it's so darn HOT. I think I'm a little irritable, do ya think??
Rant over, good luck. Let me know what's ahead for you,
Annierose

Yes, I get to have two of the suckers installed way back in my mouth, too. Tuesday I go back to my dentist to get this root canal "sealed" - makes me think I have a gaping hole in my mouth leading directly to my eye socket!! - and have a post inserted, because that tooth was down to nothing to begin with. I'm pretty certain the only reason I have teeth at all is because our water had fluoride in it when I was a kid - I cannot recall a single time I was ever told to brush my teeth before going to bed. Apparently dental hygiene wasn't taught in England when my parents were students?? This will have been my 7th root canal.
I had to cancel my T appointment this week because of that root canal! But she's seeing me on Monday. My visit home was a real doozy. Lots of fodder.
Good for you for saying something to the parking lot attendant!! Just where does he/she think most Americans' descendents are from??

I need to have a root canal and a crown on a back molar. The dentist claims he can do the whole thing in 2 hours! He insists I be knocked out on Antivan since I am obviously a "crazy" and will give me ephenephrine even though it makes my heart race and blood pressure soar. I already take BP meds.
I have never felt so bad for having a mental health history. He will NOT be doing the work. I need to find a dentist.......

> MidnightBlueGetting a second opinion on any procedure is a fine idea!! Most general dentists refer their patients to endodontists these days (EVERYTHING seems to be specialised). I'm surprised your dentist would be doing his/her own root canals. If you're not in pain with your tooth, by all means look for someone else who would be more sensitive to your medical history and emotional requirements.
p.s. I am a total panicky, frightened wuss in the dental chair and premedicate with .5mg of xanax. Many others do, too.

PC,
I have a HUGE hole in this tooth where part of the filling fell out about 6 months ago. I am just now in the position to try and fix it. I use LOTS of Sensodyne toothpaste but otherwise can manage. I have several other teeth that have cavities of some size also. He didn't even tell me how many. I had not been to a dentist in 5 years for lack of money or insurance.I offered to take Valium--something I took many years ago and do okay on. His attitude was you are probably so strung out on benzos Valium probably won't work. Odd, since I haven't taken it in over 10 years for ANY reason and only take 1/2 an Ambien most nights to help me sleep.
I too am a wuss and panicked mess in the dental chair thanks to some VERY bad dentistry experiences that were NOT my fault!

Dentists and bad teeth are huge for me. I knew that I was feeling so much better when I went ahead and made a dentist's appt. My T was thrilled. The teeth, dentist thing are related to my csa and to have someone working on my mouth is very triggering. So much so that I avoided the dentist for 10 years. By the time I went (I've always had bad teeth) I had to have a root canal, at least six crowns and a partial bridge. I went every three weeks until it was all done. My husband screamed about the cost, but it was something I had to do.
To make it as comfortable as possible, I told my dentist that I experienced csa as a child (and bulimic) and this was really difficult for me to do. He was wonderful (my husband was horrified I'd told the dentist, but that's his problem). For all the time we did the work, he was very kind, and always asked me if I needed a break (for triggering events). He was great; a little odd, but great. I took .25 mg Xanax on those days I was a wreck and it helped enormously.
good luck,
antigua

Whew! Went in to have my root canal sealed and a post fitted, and the dentist had both of my 2 crowns ready to insert, a week ahead of schedule. I was able to get everything done in a single visit.
What a huge relief. At one point the guy really did have BOTH hands in my mouth at the same time as when he asked me a question.
I am *so* happy this is over. It seemed like a really big deal. I worked for a dentist for a year (she was pretty horrible dentist - very poor chairside manner) and I remember that the patients seemed to appreciate my empathy. Gosh, when you have bad teeth, you can really relate to others' problems. Everything costs so much money, and there are always multiple appointments. Even today I was trembling in the chair, although there was no pain. So much anticipation, you know?
Sigh.

Incredible luck! Good for you!! I still have to go back to THAT chair. I'm glad it wasn't as uncomfortable for you as it was for me. My dentist gave me temoraries, so I need to schedule an appointment to go back .. NOOO NOOO ... say it isn't so. So I'm waiting a week or two, until I regain my composure.
The little dental insurance benefits I had, were used after the root canal. The crown is $900. Unbelievable. Think of the therapy appts I could have used that money for ... instead ... I charged it on my husband's VISA (the bill he pays :)

> AnnieroseDental insurance is a joke! You can really just get one thing done to one tooth a year. At least it defrays the cost somewhat. Sometimes my husband jokes (I think) that he should have checked my teeth like a horse before we married... he got a bum deal!
