hi all,
I agreed to do a huge project for work that requires LOTS of learning & research on my part. I have only a few more weeks before I need to be ready. This is enough time as long as I get cracking and work hard. For some reason, I've been procrastinating a bit and not throwing my all into it. Then I get worried & stressed and KNOW I should be just DOING it....but I don't start.I know that once I do start (and assuming I do, soon!) I'll do a great job. I just need to START. But I'm afriad that the next few weeks will be very stressful and will involved lots of hard work.
Can you guys offer me moral support?
thanks!
JenStar

I sure know how that is... but today I'm finally sending off my dissertation to membersof my committee. If I can do it so can you!
One thing that helped me was to put up reminders of the rewards for finishing (I had pictures of friends and future colleagues up on my computer). Sort of a visual reminder of people who wanted to see me succeed and who believed in me.
Maybe you could choose yourself a reward for getting started.

Couldn't resist...
I do that, too. I call it the AvoiDance. Some days I dance so much and so long, I get too exhausted to do anything else...
I guess I've found some things that help me, a bit:
1. I make lists. I make a *lot* of lists... That helps. Some days I actually *do* some of what's on the lists...
2. I build in breaks, to do something fun. "Clean living room, kitchen, downstairs bathroom, (play with polymer clay) do laundry, clean guest bathroom, (watch movie on TV while filing papers)" etc. That helps a bit. My problem with doing that is that some days I have to have my first break *before* I start, other days I have that first break first -- in order to AvoiDance doing anything... Hard for me to know which it is...
3. Sometimes, if I have the energy, I do a half-@$$ed version quick and dirty, so that I have *something* done, then go back through and clean it up, piece by piece, so that I have something good...
4. And, of course, I Write Outlines. I am the Empress of Outlines. Whatever else you say about me, I give GREAT outline...
Just a few thoughts for you. Cheap at half the price, eh?

Here you have - lots of support.
One thing that helps me when I need to get started is to do a little bit of meditation - take half hour and calm down and organize my thoughts, and since I am religious, I do some repeated prayers and it helps me focus well. You might want to try it if that works for you.

You got it!
I know you'll be great. You have such an enthusiastic way of being, and that should translate nicely into learning and research.
The first step is the hardest. Which doesn't make it easier to take, I know. (Believe me, I know.)
I'll send starter vibrations your way.

Getting started is always the hardest part of anything, isn't it?
