Good to see ya.

Well, no. Not blocked. Not in any trouble. I just don't post often or even read here much. But for some reason I feel very protective of you.
You can't count on me---I'm not ever going to be a frequent flyer---but please know I'm in your corner in this big old passive-aggressive world, kid.
P.S. It occurs to me that "scarce as hen's teeth", a US Southern expression, may not be immediately recognizable to Aussies.
Nevertheless I remain,
Yours,
hen

:-)
Maybe thats why I feel a protective of you too.
I think you got PBC'd a while back - I wanted to Babblemail you about that. If you turn your Babblemail setting on I'll Babblemail you my email address. Otherwise you could Babblemail me yours first if you are ok with that.

So you haven't become a Babbleaddict yet then? Oh well, theres still time ;-)

> P.S. It occurs to me that "scarce as hen's teeth", a US Southern expression, may not be immediately recognizable to Aussies.

I have heard of it. But I should warn you that confusing New Zealanders with Aussies is about as dangerous as confusing Canadians with Americans or the Irish with the English ;-)

Yikes. Sorry about that. That's even worse than people living on either coast of the US not knowing the difference between Iowa and Ohio!
There's a saying that goes something like this:
Wars are the American's method of learning geography. I've mutilated the saying, but you get the idea....

Oh right, the difference between Iowa and Ohio... ;-)

I heard a joke off the Simpsons. Can't remember exactly how it went... Something about the mid-west - where is that? Oh, you know, somewhere in that waste of space between LA and New York...

Heh heh, yeah I do. There must be a better way... Take this for instance:

http://www.ticket2ridegame.com/index.php?t=content&sub=inside&rid=&S=5abc2f0fc2e5c653ab50a6a64dff2094

It is a board game. Dare I say it is a REALLY REALLY great board game that I highly recomend. Not only is it fun but the map (which you can see in the link) is a real map of the US. There are state boundary lines (not all of them I dare say it gets a little complicated in some parts I seem to remember...) and the main city (or two) of each state is named. You get tickets and have to build railway tracks connecting the places specified on the ticket. I am a board game fan - I'd highly reccomend this one and it gives you a good idea of US geography. The track between LA and NY gives you lotsa points, for instance, whereas NY to Miami isn't as far... There are Canadian cities on the map too...

And there is a Europe version. Have to get that one next.

Well, maybe someday I'll look into those games, but it's highly unlikely! :) A night in mid-winter when my insomnia is hitting hard? If I can remember? Nope, not a realistic possibility.
But let's talk about Tasmania. A fantasy. Huge fantasy. Living in Tasmania. But I would have to have begun the process 30 years ago.
I do know (I think) that although Australia has almost every poisonous critter known to humankind, New Zealand has no snakes, poisonous or otherwise? No deadly insects? I may be wildly misinformed.
I'm babblin. Probably won't show up here again for a month or so, but in the meantime, take care of yourself. You're a keeper.
Hen

Wot, you ask me a question and in the same breath inform me that you are just about to bug off???
;-)
I'm addicted to board games.
Tasmania is quite nice. I have been there. It is rather a lot like Christchurch NZ. Quite a traditional / conservative society. Church on every corner just about.

>I do know (I think) that although Australia has almost every poisonous critter known to humankind, New Zealand has no snakes, poisonous or otherwise? No deadly insects? I may be wildly misinformed.

We don't have any snakes. There is one variety of poisionous spider (the red-back). But you only find them in the bush (forest). Don't have to worry about them really. There are no natural predators in NZ either. But then cats and rats and possums and wallabies and dogs and ferrets and rabbits were introduced. Now they are a bit of a pain with respect to keeping the native species of flora and fauna alive.

Thats how come the kiwi could live in NZ. The kiwi can't fly. It is defenseless against preditors. They are endangered now.

There are some fairly smalish islands off the main north and south island that have been set up as native sanctuaries. Tourist numbers are kept way down (you even have to take your sh*t out with you).

You take care too.

I haven't done. I used to be addicted to internet games a bit before I discovered babble. ITS blocked most of the games sites somehow or other so I can't get to them now :-( Can download games and play them x amount of times and then set my comp. back at a previous point in time but thats about it.

I didn't know you could play it over the internet. I'm trying to forget I saw that ;-) Can't afford to get too hooked into games at the mo.

We have a game running all the time in our office. Officemates and some other people we know. We played this robots game for over a year over the internet. We would email in our turns for the week and officemate would process them and update the board and send us the turn.

At the mo we are playing dungeons and dragons. Just started a couple months ago. Still on the first level.

Anyone know the sorts of things that coloured stones might turn out to be in dungeons and dragons? Have had a bit of an internet and book search but can't find anything...

I think they might be just there to fool a certain person who went around smashing barrels (and leaving us to being ripped apart by zombies). She is stoked with them. But they don't seem to be doing anything....

http://www.sjgames.com/frag/

And I'd quite like to get hold of a couple of these...

Carcassonne is excellent. Another game we've enjoyed lately is San Juan (I think the same publisher, but a card-based game).

I haven't heard of that one. I'll look into it. Thanks.
