anyone got an ipod?

Any good???

I'm thinking of getting one to put all my music on.
Currently I've got a portable CD player playing through a surround sound speaker system - but I could ditch that for an ipod.
And they recharge their own batteries which is my main problem with portables.
And they store the music so you don't have to carry round CDs.

Apparantly...

You don't get as many songs as they say unless you go with the highest compression level though. Thats where you get some loss of music quality so you don't want to compress them that much.
And apparantly you want to only fill them to two thirds capacity. Otherwise it will run slow.

Anyone have any thoughts???

I have the ipod mini. I LOVE IT!! It's so much easier to tote around town with (compared to your CD players). It stores 1,000 songs and so far, I only have 200 on there, but it's plenty. I'm adding slowly. It's fun to borrow co-workers CD's and pick out a song here and there.

Plus there's the i-music store. Burn too much of my little free time browsing their selections. Lots of fun!! Fun creating playlist too.

All in all, I'd say it's my favorite newest gadget!! Now I know you live half way around the world from the States, now they have a few different types here. The newest ones holds photos too. They range in U.S. dollars from $229 - $349.

I listen to mine daily. I need to charge it almost ever other day. Wish it held the charge longer.

I've been using mine to listen to Audio Books. They're so bulky to buy, and the rental stores charge a large amount (understandable, limited demand), so downloading books from Amazon or Audible is a big cost savings. That's what I listen to in the car.

I use an FM transmitter to do that. It's working pretty well for me, given that I'm listening to spoken word, and it has the added benefit of recharging my iPod as I drive. I almost never have to charge it anymore.

Now to transfer all the songs from my CD's to it, and if I can, also old fashioned records and tapes, and I'll free up a nice chunk of room in the house.

I love mine.. I would marry it if I could..

I LOVE IT!!

I've only got a 4Mb mini.. but I currently have 837 songs on it, and two series of Hitch Hiker Guids to the Galaxy radio series.. And thats all at standard compression rates.
the average headphones out there will compress the music more than lowering your compression rate on the PC!

I have 8 different play lists to cover all my moods.. a going to work one, a bad day at work one (thats ones loud!), a sleepy chill out one, jazz, ska, hip hop..

And they're sooo pretty.. and the under interface is the best on the market in my opinion..

I couldn't be without mine.. and I already want to upgrade to a larger capacity one *L*

If only I could get one with your play lists on it. It would save me so much time!

I guess I'll have to start saving.

Our ITunes has got an incredible range of music on it actually *L* Ramones to Carol King, Fat Boy Slim to Chet Baker.. Its up to 10.4 days worth of music (I love that about ITunes.. that it tells you how much music you have in days / hours!!)

What you have to do, is come over to London, but your Ipod from the Apple store here (heaven, true heaven! And the most stunning architecture) and then I copy my ITunes onto it *L*

See, simple

*giggling*

Wow! I am now so desperate to get myself an ipod. Do you think it's OK if I feed the kids nothing but beans on toast for a couple of months?

I think I've heard about that Apple store. Is it in Regent St.? Doesn't it have a big altar or something?

I lived in London many years ago, in the south east. Before Apple Macs existed!

I like the sound of that. That's three months of beans on toast, to factor in the air fare...

Ah, well now I have to get one :-)

I agree that the mini's look cuter and come in cool colours - but I think I want to go with the larger capacity.

I have heard that you can get an acessory that tunes into your car / home stereo. That sounds pretty cool but I wouldn't have a use for it.

The only thing it doesn't have that I wish it did is a radio tuner.

Can you get spare batteries???
You could keep a spare set charged to switch over.

If you follow the link I put in the post you can click links to the one that stores photos, the mini one, and shuffle too which holds about 250 songs and only plays on random. That one is one hundred and something.

Nikki - thanks for the USB suggestion. Updating / sharing is much much much easier now :-)

I am in Zen love with my Creative 6GB Zen Micro mp3 player. I got mine for 200 or so and change. You can see more here: http://tinyurl.com/dvvtg
Mine holds about 3000 songs. Plus it plays Windows Media Audio, which are smaller song files and just as good, if not better, then Mp3.
PLUS...I've heard that there are going to be some amazing features added soon the will blow the Ipod out of the water (such as 24-bit sound, which will make an audio lover drooool.) Check it out..

Yup. You can tune it into the radio (with an accessory).
You can also just plug it in.
I've got a surround sound speaker system - but it doesn't play so I need to plug in externals for CD, radio, etc.
I'm going to plug it into that.

Hmm.
It better do surround sound after all that...

:-)
Digital cameras are getting pretty cheap now.
I got my first ever camera last year. I'd never had one before, and never even used one of those disposable ones. I got a really cheap digital camera, just to see whether I would get into using it or not.

Aside from trying to take pics of some baby ducks last summer I haven't really used it.

One of my friends is trying to start up a portrait / wedding photography business and she has a WONDERFUL digital camera with a flash zoom and everything. I like it, but I don't think I'd use it ;-)

Are you into photography?
