Sorry for being gross, but I have a question...I took some heavy anti-biotic's recently and ended up with a nasty yeast infection :(
Ive taken the 3 day monostat, but I am still in major pain. I even got vagasil for pain relief, but really not much help. Will the pain and tenderness go away or what?? Ive been done with the monostat for days now............

OHHHH I feel for you!!! In my experience, my infection was gone when I was done with monostat. I think the best option would be to go to your doctor and they have stronger drugs they can prescribe. I once was prescribed this pill you just take once, and man, I have to say, it worked like a charm. Do you have health coverage?

Diflucan.. it's the little pink pill. It should knock it out but in the meantime, LOAD up on PLAIN yogurt with active cultures.

Eat as much as you can.

I also would suggest taking some type of probotics like acidophilus.

I am the Queen Mother of Yeast infections. LOL

Yes, get diflucan but don't stop the topical cream. Use both together. If the infection is serious it needs to be dealt with aggressively!

I got it in my breasts when I was breastfeeding! Fortunately it didn't migrate...

Ive had a fair few of those myself...
Is it painful because the infection is still there or because the infection was itchy and so you have scratched it???

Just wondering about that.

If the infection is still there then it does sound like you need a stronger medication to deal with it. If it is painful because of scratching then you probably need something to soothe the skin.

Are you sure it's not a bladder or Urinary tract infection??

Sometimes those can mimick a yeast infection.

Eat a lot of yogurt. I'm not kidding. I'm old and the only yeast infection I ever got was many many years ago when I stopped eating yogurt because I had to go take care of my parental unit's problems, and of course, they had no yogurt.
(In those days we grew our own, in fact.)
Yogurt = friendly bacteria, which is destroyed by antibiotics, by the way....
Yep. Old hippie. And I haven't shaved my legs or pits in 30some years! Talk about gross...

Thanks all. First, I do have med. insurance..and second I never really scratched it bad or anything. And I do have a pain releiver to put on. Its not getting worse, today is better than yesterday so maybe (keeping my fingers crossed) it will go away. And, I will try the yogurt. I actually like it.....

Yogurt. All the docs that have given me antibiotics hightly recommend yogurt to avoid this.

Too bad I can't stand yogurt. I can handle it frozen, though, but I'm not sure it works the same.

I hate yogurt too. Except the really sugarry kinds that don't taste like yogurt. And I doubt they work. Don't they make acidophilus powder as well?

After a few days on antibiotics, I can just feel the chronic yeast infection I have under my arms spreading to less congenial sites. As soon as the course of antibiotics is over, I'll call for one of those pills. :(

In observing this thread, I haven't seen a single recommendation for probiotics. You can buy capsules that contain the bacteria from yoghurt, but in a dormant state.....they're usually marketted as probiotics.

There are many brands, with Bifidus (Bifidobacterium), and/or Lactobacillus spp. Some call the culture Acidophilus (that's correct, too, but it's an umbrella term for Lactobacilli).

I don't know if these work like yoghurt, though. Obviously, I can't use my own experience. Has anybody used these, instead of yoghurt?

If you do try probiotics, make sure the store you buy them from keeps them in the refrigerator, and that the expiry date is a long way off. These are living creatures, kept dormant in the cold. Their lifespan can be decreased by mishandling.

I suppose I should take them for me, but I haven't got up the nerve.

My vet told me to get them for one of my dogs with cancer several years ago. I think he said it would be good for his diahhrea. I can't recall now if it worked or not.

The sweet fruity ones should work just as well. They have the same 'good stuff' as the plain ones.
