Tooth Mouse on his way

Posted by saw on January 31, 2005, at 3:42:33

My son has his first loose tooth. I felt all excited, old and emotional at the same time.

He says - "Oh good, now I can get some money"!

I've never heard of the tooth mouse, only the tooth fairy. Does the tooth mouse leave money under your pillow in exchange for the tooth?

We have the tooth mouse for boys and the tooth fairy for girls. Traditionally, we would leave the tooth in our slipper next to the bed and money would be in the slipper the next morning. I have a little wooden "bedpost" hanger I guess you could call it, painted all brightly with a cheeky looking mouse on it and some little rhyme about teeth and money. It has a little red pouch to put the tooth in. I bought it quite recently though have never seen anything like it when I was growing up.

Sabrina, that is so sweet. I kept my daughter's first tooth and memory booked it along with a picture of her toothless, elated grin.

my son was such a light sleeper, for a few years, that I had to hang it in a bandana on his doorknob (outside the door) and told him that the tooth fairy would get it from there now.

I was just exhausted from attempting to reach under his pillow without waking him up! I would try to do it every half hour or so, but he would always wake up! One time I couldn't get the exchange made (I fell asleep trying!), so I told him that she had left a note about the bandana and left the coin, but that she counted on him putting the tooth in the bandana that night since she had already given him the money.

What hoops we jump through for mythical beings...!
