movies....what are your favorite?

Posted by Jai Narayan on November 20, 2004, at 14:08:40

I would love to know what people are watching and loving. It's always so hard to go into the video store to see if there's some thing good.
We tried to go to see the "Incredibles" again today but the lobby was packed and there was a waiting line....of children. Way too many children. I just don't want to be packed in an audience filled with sneezing, coughing, wiggling, eating, f*rting, noisy children.
So we gave up. We are home and so much for the movies.
I am dissapointed.
Jai

This isn't a video, but I've heard the new movie in theares called "Sideways" is excellent. I'm going to try to get out to see it today.

As for rentable movies, I like "The Truman Show" a lot.

I have so many favorites.

I like "Truly Madly Deeply" and "Lillies"
I think they are my two absolute favorites, though after I post this I'm sure I'll think of
more!
(I think you'd like them both Jai, just a hunch)
Oh, and "Magnolia"

I don't care too much for comedies, I don't know why, I never have, not even when I was a child.

Some how I got a trailer for "Sideways" it looked like a riot.
I happen to love Merlot.
Today and last Saturday we tried to see "incredibles" but we were too sick and all the kids waiting were sneezing. It was an ominous site.

* I absolutly loved "Truly Madly Deeply"....I saw it so many times and cried, laughed and felt absolutly profound.
However, I have not seen "Lillies". I will look that one up.

*Was Julia Roberts in "Magnolia"? If it's that one...it was excellent.

*If you can think of more....keep it coming.

Hi Jai,

Julia Roberts was in "Steel Magnolias" That was a good movie. I just downloaded a trailer from "Incredibles". I had never heard of it before. It looks pretty amusing.

I always like to watch "The Sound of Music" around holidays.

Oh, she was in "steel Magnolias"
Magnolia surprised me because it has Tom Cruise in it, but it's definitely not a "Tom Cruise"
film, it's like a dream, or a painting, I can't really describe it much better than that.

did you see this movie?
It had Julie Andrews as the fairy godmother. Her voice sounds creamy and wonderful.
I guess she has recovered from her throat problem.

I don't remember much from Steel Magnolias, except Shirley MaClaines character saying, "I'm not a b@tch I've just been in a bad mood for 40 years" I liked that.

I haven't seen the Truman show, it's one of those that I keep meaning to rent.

Well, I don't mind violence so:

"Pulp Fiction"
"Kill Bill" Volumes I and II

Also love "Silence of the Lambs" and the two sequels. And "Seven".

Don't really have any 'feel good' movies though.

(Hope the links turn out ok. I'll do my very best)

I never saw Shrek 2.

I've always wanted to sing like Julie Andrews. I want to take singing lessons one of these days.

"Steel Magnolias" was good because it was both a comedy and a drama.

I hope you like "The Truman Show" when you see it. For some reason, a lot of people didn't like it, but I LOVED it. You have to understand the premise that everything Truman does is being filmed without his knowledge for a TV show called "The Truman Show." I don't think I'm giving away anything by telling you that. It probably says that on the jacket cover. There's a lot of symbolism in the movie. There are themes of self-realization, becoming true to oneself, shattered illusions, survival of the spirit. Truman = True Man, imo.

OOops, sorry, i'ts "Lilies" and I think it is Canadian, it's likely hard to find at the regular video stores, I don't think it ever had wide release, it probably would have been picketed!

That sounds really good, I hardly ever am able to rent movies these days, but that sounds like one I'd look for.

I thought of two more you might like,
"Enchanted April" and "Babettes Feast"

I saw that you liked Shawshank redemption, Leaving Las Vegas and The Crying game, so safe to say we have very similar taste in movies. Those are in my top 10 of recently released one's anyway, I also love many old movies,
but my list of those would go on forever.

Okay here's one.. "Strangers on A Train"
