Of course, the trainer in me simply has to get out.. is screaming to be allowed out... it is amazing how much you can help your dog in these situations as well as yourself with proper training...

the dog learns self-esteem and amazingly enough so does the owner/handler...
I have seen it so often...
the person comes with the dog for training because the vet says that the dog has a behaviour problem such as the one you describe and dog and owner go away at the end of our sessions with a new outlook on life...
so why is it I cannot teach myself self esteem through training??? I train my own dogs and I train these people to train their dogs... how come it doesn't work for me???

I am confused. I thought I just read you lost your dog? If so I am very very sorry. My dog just had a major opperation and I was very worried. I also recieved the post I sent to you about the prosac after I read your's so you already had recieved it. I hope I got it right the first time from what I read that you just thought your dog needed to change meds. My other dog was on imipramine.

I have lost many over the years...
but one of them was so very special and was killed in an accident two summers past; that one was devastating for me...
then a few weeks past, the one that was beginning to fill the hole he left in my life died of a heart condition... there are four others so I am not exactly destitute but there is still such a huge emptiness...
I could have a thousand dogs and it would be as if there was nothing left in my life...
and I am going through all the stages of grief... especially the depression and rage stages...

> NeNe, I am so sorry to here about your father. My best friend lost he mother last week, and is having a roler-coaster ride with it. It must be difficult, I will be thinking of you. Congrat's on your new Lab!!! They are they greatest! Smart, loving, and beautiful animals. I really wish Kat lived near me!! I need her for advice daily, and to help me train my dog. As for the Topamax, you say you took yourself up? You must have had many refills on your prescription. We do not, and I am assuming the doc. will provide those on our next visit. How fast did you lose the weight? And I amost forgot - Welcome to our discussion group!! -L

Hey, anyone who wants help with dog training, this is something I have done before on-line and we can set up a group through yahoo or someplace and work together if we need it or we can just do it one on one direct email..
I am always happy to help... rather that than an unhappy dog-human relationship because I believe it is such a therapeutic and vital relationship...

Sorry about it being late I had a question or two also. I was the one with the dog on imipramine for a while. He was adopted by me at 1 and 1/2 and was terribly afraid of everyone and all things. He still is outside my home but inside he is very playful and exteremely submissive. Outside I cannot get him to calm down once he sees someone. He shows his teeth sometimes but mainly pulls and barks ferociously
and all his hair goes up. He is very afraid. I saw him get loose a couple of times and come across people and he would stand about five feet from them and bark and growl and his hair was up and his teeth would show and then he would take off.
I have not been able to help him outside even though I took him to classes!

P.S. he is 6 and 1/2 now.
He is happy as can be inside.
