Aren't you guys open to the idea that we might be going somewhere after we die? There's no evidence to the contrary, but there is evidence to support it. (*please* don't ask me to look up specific evidence right now-too unmotivated.) but the evidence i'm talking about concerns near-death experiences, or NDEs. why don't you maybe do a Google search on NDEs or near-death experiences and see what you come up with. after much research on this, i am convinced that these are real, and that there is no end. rather, it is more like a beginning because what awaits us is so amazing. life here on earth is supposed to be hard, but this is only temporary. the reason we're here is to learn to love. that's it. this is like one big, long lesson. when we die is when life really begins. you don't want to give up and kill yourself, however, not because you'll go to hell, but because you'll just have to come back and deal with the same problems, until you learn the lessons. so that's why it's not a solution.

i just thought i'd share that. By the way, i'm not religious (i am "spiritual" though).

Whenever I read about near death experiences I just get totally terrified. I can`t help but think that any supreme being who allows all the suffering that exists in this world must have even worse stuff planned for the next. So I hang in there, though I certainly can`t say I`m learning to love. Just learning to suffer. Which I guess means that even if I don`t kill myself I`ll still be punished by having to live all over again. I desperately hope there`s nothing more after this world. Frankly, I hate my parents for choosing to bring me into it. Cecilia

I guess I make decisions under the premise that it is best that I take into consideration that which I am confident is certain. I would not be terribly disappointed should I find myself in paradise after this existence. By the same token, I often find myself enraptured by the near perfection of this one.

Alesta, I hear where your coming from and i do believe that there is something after death. I too feel that we are being tested. But, I am Catholic (just returned to my faith) and we were taught if you killed yourself you would go to hell. And I have always had that thought in my mind (even during real bad times) i dont want to go there. I want to be with my family. What really hurts is that my grandmother killed herself when i was 2. I dont even remember her and i hope that i will get to see her one day again- perhaps God will forgive her...

I believe in the afterlife, I was raised Catholic but am not a practicing Catholic. I believe in God, and too have always been afraid of suffering if I were to ever choose to take my own life. I would like to believe that God is forgiving and that he has forgiveness even should someone end their own life, but my fear is one of the things that has kept me from ever killing myself.

Catholicism is rather complex, as are most religions. I am ignorant of most of it. One can find many contradictions and "reversals of decisions" in the Bible. Didn't J die for all sins?
