I just got a call from my doctor who is helping me with fertility stuff. After months of my thyroid hormones going wildly up and down, it seems that they are stabilizing in a relatively normal state. I do feel pretty good - not lethargic, and not super hyped up. For a change. Apparently this should help my anti-depressant work better too.
And then, you know I've been trying to get pregnant . . . Well they did this test thing to see if my eggs are any good (expecting that they'd be losing viability because I'm 39). But the test shows that my eggs are dandy! Unusually healthy for my age, apparently. Sorry if that's TMI, but I'm just so relieved! So now I'm cleared for some minor fertility related medical interventions, and I'm gonna go for it this month! Wish me luck.
Also, to have a realistic plan B in place, my husband and I have started talking to adoption agencies. And to tell the truth, I'm really excited about that, too! We're thinking about adopting from Nepal, or South Korea. It seems like an exciting adventure to adopt, so I think I win either way!
It's such a relief to be thinking positively about this lately. For years I've been in this negative self-hate spiral about what a crappy mother I'd be and how I deserved all these problems, etc.
Just wanted to share.

congrats and good luck! Either way, a baby will have a great mommy to love him or her. Knowing how important that love is to a child makes you a better parent than most already!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks much! That's one up side to this whole thing: lots of "quality time together" with my husband. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before we're parents. I appreciated your helping me celebrate!

Thanks GG!
I needed to hear that. Today I wasn't feeling much like lovely mommy material, but I'm definitely committed to working on that. I appreciate any good thoughts people like you are willing to share with me on this. And thanks for helping me celebrate my good news!

Thanks gabbix! I really appreciate you saying those things. Today has been a rough day (just in time to spoil my good day yesterday), and I really needed to see your positive message and good wishes.
It *is* going to be all right for all of us, I think and hope. :)

Pegasus, I'm so pleased for you. You will be such a great mother and your children will be so lucky to have you.
I love the thought that you would be willing to adopt - it just confirms your kind and loving nature. One of my brothers was adopted and he is just wonderful. (he was five when he came and I was three) We fought as kids of course! but he is one of the kindest and best of companions and friends. My other brother is ten years older and I can honestly say that I love them the same.
All the very best to you and your husband. This is all so exciting. Warm hugs.

I'm sorry it took me so long to see this thread, Pegasus. That is such very good news! And I have no doubt whatsoever that you'll make a terrific mother. It's a hard job, but such a rewarding one!
A friend just adopted two babies from Siberia, and they're the cutest little things you'd want to see.

Wow, Raindancer, that was great to hear. It's scary to think about adopting, but also exciting. So I'm trying to cultivate my excited response, and not pay too much attention to being scared. Hearing about your brother helps a lot.
I mean, of course it's scary! Having a baby at all is scary! But I'm just so ready and can hardly wait. And I really appreciate your wonderful comments about me being a mom, and about how much you love your brother. Thanks so much.

Hi Dinah,
No worries about timing. As you can see lots of folks were here to help me celebrate. And you have a lot on your hands right now, I know.
That's great about your friend's babies. Were they twins? I've been thinking about saying we're available to take twins. Because, if we were to have our own, I'd be thrilled. And probably also stressed out.
Thanks for your very kind comments about me being a mother. I'm trying to think that way myself. It's hard after so long thinking the opposite, but therapy is helping a lot with that. And I'm starting to believe that I could be a good mom. Good enough anyway!

In both cases of friends who adopted outside the US (and both happened to be Siberia), the couple adopted two children at once. I'm not sure if that's policy or choice, and I didn't ask.
One couple adopted two siblings, not twins. One couple adopted two babies the same age, but not related. I think two babies would be a stretch for me, but they're coping fine. Both mom and dad are very hands on and they have good family support.
This is the end of the thread.
