i may have a job!!

Posted by karen_kay on June 26, 2004, at 12:21:49

yahooo!!!! it would be scraping paint, then repainting a house, on the outside!!! (oh dear, ladders and heights! oh no!)

but, i'm excited.. and it would last all summer, a very big job. i'm going to look at the house tomorrow.. see, those fliers did pay off! and i just love manual labor (especially when i'm with a friend and we can talk, smoke and get a tan!)

super big YAHOOOOO for me :)

YEAH KK!! That's great! Get a GOOD safe ladder please! Wear a helmut and shoulder pads!?? Or get a loooong stick, and duct tape the brush to the end. Very professional look.

Great job girly!

That is excellent Kk. I am happy for you. Unemployment deeply hurts and obviously affects us with mental health issues, and I love hearing stories like this. Just take one day at a time...allow yourself to get used to it...and all should be great!

Best,
Jay :-)

That's great, KK! I'm so impressed. Maybe when it is time for me to set up a practice, I can get you to market it for me?

I wanna ditch the office type work and get a part on Trading Spaces toooooo! Really, as much as I'm addicted to my computer, when I do intense physical work like you'll be doing I actually feel much healthier and more even.

Great score! Sounds perfect. :- D

even i get tired of seeing my name so much :)

i wonder, can you drink beer while painting? i thought about applying for a job with a construction company (roofing) and my old man suggested i look for manual labor on the ground, as being a clutz and heights isn't a good combo!

emmy: of course a safe ladder, but i don't do helmets or shoulder pads... NEVER!

miss sunshine: thank you! but, i had no choice due to lack of perspective employers.. they call me shaft, can you dig it?

jay: good to see you! and i think the biggest toll on my mental health was my old man riding my butt to find a job. but, manual labor will do me some good..

how's your job coming? any cute girls?

gg: is that a promise? i warn you now, i'd probably market your practice as 'boundaries, schmoundaries' how's that sound?

colleen: thank you dear! i'm sure i'll enjoy it too.

spoc: ha ha ha! now you are jealous of me! jsut call me paige and i'll call you ty and we can get together and have some pie.

klokka: thank you! it will be great, i'll make it so!

octo: you bet ya! i'm getting tanner from sunbathing (what else do i have to do? work? ha!) but, i'll be as dark as my old man soon, and he'll be very jealous!

thanks everyone! i appreciate it!

got a rate today, and will do a 'sample day' tomorrow, to see how fast we work for a more accurate estimate.

wish me luck!

Work, work, work. (another movie quote...Blazing Saddles I think) You have become quite ambitious here of late. This is excellent as you will need to make a great deal of money to keep me in chocolate milk, Stoli and calculator watches. Seriously, (kinda) I think it's terrific how you put this all together rather than be at the mercy of some arbitrary a**hole HR director or fast food manager. Have you done much painting?....doesn't matter. You'll be the painting crew foreman in a week anyway. Pleeeease be careful Grace...make sure you have workers comp....not that you'll need it...but just in case. You're the best, doll.

look who's here! i thought you were going to meet me in town, so we could scrape paint together (or at least you'd watch and i'd work...)?

you didn't and it was just 2 girls scraping paint all day long. wanna play bloody knuckles? oopsie, you win!

what worker's comp? (btw, if i fall, the homeonwner pays, so don't you fret. i'll nickel and dime him to death, if that's the case.. ohh, my back hurts already. where's worker's comp when you need it? i may have a serious injury!)

kid, it's lovely to see you again. and i'm saving every day so i can keep you stocked with chocolate milk, vodka and a brand new calculator watch!! (but, you didn't mention that nicorette gum you chew. will i need to buy that too?)

stick around baby, we like you here!

(oh, and you called me grace! i may be in love now ;)

uh oh!!!!

this stinks out loud! (thanks again emmy, but this really does smell bad!)

went to work (still love the sound of that word) and found out we're doing too good a job, so he's concerned aobut the price :(

but, he's calling my 'partner' today and i told her what to say. (i fear she's defensive and may not talk so well about it)

goodness! but, as long as he agrees to meet with us and discuss what we need to do to correct the problems, we'll still have a job (if i have any say about this... i can be fairly persuasive you know....)

what ever happened to doign a job right? apparently he jsut wants us to half-a** it. i can do that too, but he needs to tell us that, not hire us then decide we scrape too much paint...

i know, this doesn't make sense (we've been hand scraping the paint, and i guess he only wants us to scrape what is loose. )

here's to the unemployment association of america! i may be joining the group again...

one good thing though, my old man didn't get the new t-bird he wanted... (the bank couldn't justify giving a 25 year old the money for a t-bird, plus he doesn't have enough credit...) so, we don't have to worry about a new car payment. but, my old man's still going to be upset if i don't have a job.

good grief! anyone want to hire a good worker for anything? (hey, i'm not above begging!)

it'll work out, i'm sure. (right?)

i just thought of something...

i've never been fired from any job before... never! i won't let this be the first time either! i'll call him myself if i have to. i'm not going to be fired. NEVER! and if he thinks he can fire us, he's going to be in for a surprise. i'll go work over at his house for free until he hires me back (don't think i won't! i really will!)

<insert evil laugh>!!!!!

i'll be happy to send pictures of what happens when you don't do a good job of scraping. :( our house needs painting again. hard to work up a lot of energy over it when the garden is overgrown with weeds and the grass needs mowing, but that doesn't change the fact that a poorly prepared house needs to be painted more often.

i called him myself. i took the 'what did we do wrong?' approach. he admitted he got in over his head, not realizing the cost for the whole project. i negotiated, he negotiated, we found a common figure and i worked today. and it was fun too. (there was a man i the alley behind the house that walked by and asked if only we two girls were going to paint the house. when he said yes, he shook his head, walked away and said 'good luck!' i was a bit upset by that (ok, i was angry, i'll admit it). but, we 'did good work' today and will be back tomorrow once again.

yes, i kept the job. yes, i enjoy it very much. yes, my tan is coming along nicely. and yes, i will talk to him again if he's concerned about the price, as i really want to keep this job and don't know if my 'partner/friend' will be as nice and sweet as i am :)

Once again, KK, you're awesome! » karen_kay
