Hello Miss Dinah?

I'm interested in finding out about the project you mentioned on the psych board. Not to fan the flames or anything.

I've set up a Yahoo group, it's all ready to go. Certainly not a replacement for Babble or anything. Just for when things get unsafe here, but are considered "civil" by Dr. Bob.

I just need to figure out the details of things like whether to allow open membership and then ban people, or to restrict membership (but allow in all babblers). I'm leaning to the latter. Any ideas?

Plus, I suppose I'm putting it off because the whole idea makes me so sad. I love Babble, you know.

I guess the moderator and/or a popular vote should be able to unsubscribe a member for it to feel secure.

I love babble too. I think we have been really lucky up until now. I would hope that all this works out, because I actually NEED a safe place like this to vent and rant and solicit pity... I mean, to go when I'm down. It's become a big part of my recovery, to be able to take all the things bouncing around in our brains and let other people share their points of view and experience, in a very supportive manner.

Actually, I think you're still pretty safe to disclose what you need to disclose here on Babble, unless it touches on certain topics.

I think you'd still get the really supportive exchange of views you always got in the past.

I vote for restricted membership, accessible only to members-- all the private settings. If I could change another thing about Babble, it would be the issue of having all our posts publicly archived and searchable forever. Sure it's fun to browse archives, but I get really nervous thinking of how much I've revealed here over the years. Sometimes I'll google some topic and the top entry will be one of my babble posts, or one of your posts. At least on Yahoo groups you can have private archives.

Just my 2c.

And as much as I can't seem to do it, you can always ignore the posts you know won't be supportive. :(

I agree, it's hard to ignore messages that I probably shouldn't read.

I havent been around in awhile so I dont know (until I go and try and find the posts) whats going on but it sounds like a splinter group! Thats fine I think. Not that I dont like this placce, I do. There are other mental health support forums around like depressionforums.com. But they all have their own rules too. You could setup your own website and forum if you wanted. But on the web there is little secure forum or security from search engines. The best defense is anonymity.

Dinah's not mine either. :) Though I think I almost answer to it and think of myself as Dinah after all this time.

I definitely wouldn't say splinter group. I love Babble too much to ever splinter it. I probably won't even ever open it up. I figure it's Babble or bust for me.

I just get angry and frustrated when I don't feel like Dr. Bob is doing a very good job of protecting us.

I think that the archives are important. I saved myself (and the babble population) a lot of redundant questions because I studied the archives first. In fact, without the archives I'd still be quivering in a corner.
