garage break-in

Posted by tabitha on June 11, 2004, at 1:44:00

they took my bike and my circular saw and left the side door open. I'm not sure if they got past the lock (it's not a deadbolt) or if I left it unlocked myself. I kept telling myself to put the heavy lock on the bike to discourage such theft, but I never got around to it. Oh well, haven't ridden it in 3 years anyway, and it's insured. But I feel violated. Then again, they didn't mess up anything, didn't steal all the other tools, and didn't touch my laundry. As breakins go it could have been a lot worse.

The unpleasant thing is just to think of someone walking up and doing this in the middle of the day. I live alone and usually feel ridiculously safe here. I've left the garage door wide open overnight by accident many times, no trouble, so how ironic the thieves come in the daytime with the door closed.

Sorry Tabby babes

Theives round these parts do their violation in broad daylight around noon...not the usual undercover night time..well, in my experience.
I got robbed months ago.
I've got a heavy object next to my bed-no not a man- I live alonesome..
Never feel the same comfy self after a robbery.

That's crummy, Tabitha. Like you said, thank goodness it wasn't worse. I hear you on the violation. I've had a townhouse break-in and two attempted car thefts, and it does just feel creepy knowing someone was in your space. Takes a little while to feel like it is really yours again. : (

Ugh....that's the creepiest feeling, knowing someone has been in your place. I had an apartment that was broken into 3 times in one summer. Bad neighborhood. We felt like just leaving the dang door wide open. There was nothing worth stealing after the first break-in. They obviously had a lousy gossip network. (No water cooler?)

The last time, all they took was our panties!! Ewwwww!

tabitha:

i'm so sorry to hear about your break-in. i know after my break-in that reinforcing the locks was very reassuring to me.

usually these things do happen in the middle of the day - fewer people around to see.

((tabitha))
take good care of yourself. these things are stressful

Tabitha, I don't how many bicycles I have donated to thieves over the years. It's a very special kind of person who goes around stealing things from people's garages. I think they're called CREEPS.

Once it happened when I lived in the UK. After the police report was collected, I was visited by a victim counsellor of some kind, who sat in my living room, drank a cup of tea, and said how horrible it was to have had a break in. A very queer kind of support!

It's a nasty feeling, though. You never feel the same after that.
