All my life; and I mean since I was about 5 or so, people have called me by the wrong name. Not that this is unusual, but they always thought I was the *same* wrong person. They think I'm Susan. Susan looks just like me but has blonde hair. Susan looks just like me but her eyes are green. Susan looks just like me only her hair is long and black. Susan looks just like me, only shorter (taller, whatever).
So every time I get called by the name Susan, I feel like I must have a mysterious twin that I never knew about.
Is this really weird or does this happene to everyone?

I only get called by my sister's name. It happens more as my aunts and uncles, and my mother get older.
I laugh it off, but it is a bit annoying.

I vote for weird. ;^)
I think you might have Oscar Wilde beat, tho: "there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Well, depending on how you feel about being called Susan....

I am called "Debbie". My best friend in 3,4,5th grade was Debbie, so I thought it was because they confused the two of us. But that friendship was long long gone by high school and they still called me Debbie.
Doesn't happen so much now.
I learned to answer to it...

I'm not sure it's *ever* happened to me, which is probably as odd as having it happen all the time. I must have unique looks.
Oh, except that everyone tells me I'm the spitting image of my mother. It used to make me cry but I've gotten used to it.

When I lived overseas in Europe I swear I kept seeing the genetic twins of people I knew from North America. It was so eery. Maybe there are just so many genetic variations for faces out there.
I knew it was weird for me to keep being a Susan to other people, but I wanted to see if it was weird PLUS I was crazy. And the answer is - yes!

I've been called by my sister's name forever, even though I am nearly 8 yrs older than she is. I guess I should be happy it wasn't one of my brother's names, right?
And no one ever, ever spells my name right. It is such a little thing, but even people who know me well get it wrong...
In my next life I want to be named something exotic, like Autumn or Forest.

Well, I should have pointed out that I **really** meant it was the OTHER people, the ones who call you Susan, who are the weird ones.
So yes, weird FOR you, but not weird OF you! ;^)
As for genetic twins on different continents, a friend of a friend had his own alternate hypothesis to the Six Degrees of Separation theory. He said, instead, that there really are only 300 people in the world. The rest are extras.

I love it! And I believe it!
This is the end of the thread.
