Deathbed quote, Timing is everything!

Posted by 64Bowtie on March 21, 2004, at 9:32:34

An elderly man was on his deathbed when an acquaintance asked, "What's timing got to with life?" The dying man said, "Timing is everything!" When asked to explain, he would simply reapeat the phrase, "Timing is everything!"

As I progress toward my design of recovery in my life, I've noticed a sort of sputtering going on as I relate to other people. It resembles a pesking hard-starting lawnmower or weed eater trying to suddenly kick-in and start.

As best as I can tell, my timing is getting better and people are starting to listen to me. I have noticed I listen to them more, toooo. But it isn't as simple as they now like me better since they love to talk about themselves so they like me because I listen. Its different than that.

It seems to be my timing. Could it be I am aware of when to shut up and listen, and when to talk? Does your T know this is important? It must be important since Am not as dissatisfied with people as I once was.

How could better timing sneak up on me without me doing the hard work I do for recovery? Big puzzle to me?

Another strange thing is happenning as I approch my goals in recovery (from my cheescake addiction, etc.), time seems to have slowed down to a crawl. Could recovery be slowing down time, narrowing the path I'm on, and helping me to have better timing all at once?

Help me sort this out...

Rod

* Being quiet is more than not talking. I discovered that when i was w/ someone, i showed only my best image. I wouldn't let down my barriers & allow either myself or the other person to see what i was trying to hide.
