I second that motion. However, when I'm depressed all I do is sleep. When I'm manic I'm up all night long! Do you have any books sitting around that you haven't read in a while? It surprises me how much I forget about a book until I reread it....

Um, no. I work in a library and its hard enough being open late for finals week. Even though I am "behind the scenes" - it's still tough for the folks up on the front lines. Sorry guys.

i am one of those people who sit in the isles and read..annoying people stepping around me..my son who is usually with me is pushing all the books to the back "can we go,,can we go can we go?"
it would be nice if others had full access to the internet 24/7..as well..

they could come to your house at 4 am.
you could go into their beat up VW bus, in your pajamas, and thumb through the books on the shelves.
or, you could just sit in the back of the van and read the latest world newspapers.
the bookmobile driver would come back to pick up your book, so you don't rack up library fines 3 weeks later because going back to the library is too hard. or maybe just indefinite extensions on borrowing! woo!

You can say that again sister..... Everytime I check books out I get fined. And at the university library it is $5 per book. Nevermind that I check out 6 books at a time. And I never return them on time. So, they threaten to keep my grades (PLEASE, keep them!!! I don't want them!!!) But, as soon as I finally return them and pay the stupid fine, I go thumbing thru the computer to find about 6 more books and journals on various items of research. Sad thing is I read them in 2 days. I just never return them on time. WHY?????? I could go out to dinner 3 times over with the money I've spent on library fines alone...... Or buy my own copies of the blasted books... Maybe I'll gather up my library books today (2 weeks overdue) and get more!

I have my own key to my library. So, for me, it IS open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That is one of the best things about working at the library (and they have a copy machine and fax machine, too).
At my daughter's college the library IS open 24 hours a day. I think it's wonderful. They serve Hot Chocolate at midnight.
At least we have the internet - but it doesn't have the same tactile feel as a book...
