Q: How many internet discussion forum users does it take to change a light bulb?

A: 1,243

1 to change the light bulb and to post to the forum that the light bulb has been changed;

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently;

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs;

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs;

53 to flame the spell checkers;

41 to correct spelling/grammar flames;

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"; another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive;

156 to write to the list admin about the light bulb discussion and its inappropriateness to this forum;

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion exchange to lightbulbdiscussionforum.com;

203 to demand that cross posting to grammar-l, spelling-l and illuminati-l about changing light bulbs be stopped;

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this forum;

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty;

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs;

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and the post the corrected URL's;

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this list which makes light bulbs relevant to this list;

33 to link all posts to date, then quote them including all headers and footers and then add "Me too";

12 to post to the list that they are unsubscribing because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy;

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three";

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ;

44 to ask what is "FAQ";

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago on Usenet?"

43 to ask "what's Usenet?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sure hope nobody gets offended by this! And, BTW, I rarely see any "me three" posts here.
I don't know about you, but to me it's obvious that changing light-bulbs is an inherently dangerous act, fraught with many opportunities for danger. I think that all posts regarding changing lightbulbs be erased from all forums on the internet.
Examples include:
1: Changing lightbulbs in high places involves the use of ladders, unless the changer posesses special tools. Ladders have a danger that is obvious.
2: The special tools for use in changing lightbulbs in high places can drop the bulb if the tool hits a solid object, thus falling and injuring people.
3: Appliance light-bulbs are usually located in confined places. In ovens, the light-bulb (Please note my obvious disdain for lightbulb or lightbulb) may have it's fault noticed in the use of the oven, where it may be hot, and unwary users may be burned.
4: Christmas lighting carries the double hazzard of appearing harmless, and often being located in hazzardous locations, such as trees and roofs. Arcane lighting techniques for holiday seasons included the use of 120VAC bulbs, and thus necessitated the stringing of high voltage wiring. Enough said.
As you can clearly see, the point has been made, and posts regarding the ineptitude of various categories of individuals in the removal and replacement of these not-so-hazardous devices should not be taken lightly.
Being a former employee of General Electric, one of the major manufacturers of lights and lighting products, I assure you that this is a very important subject.
Having illuminated the subject of bulbs, lighting devices, and human ineptitude, I recommend that bulbs be spoken of only in syringes, spring flowers (obviously non-poisonous) and other such tame applications.
Let's then redo the jokes:
How many engineers does it take to plant a tulip bulb? A: 3 1 to dig the hole, 1 to plant the bulb, and 1 to decide the wrong color pland was chosen, and an engineering change notice needs to be completed.
You get the picture.
Dee.
And four, including at least one VP or above to approve the change notice. Argh!!
I LOVE it! very funny for sure. I must point out however, I feel this applies to the light bulb discussion on the whole. While I do agree the lightbulbs are potentially dangerous and LETHAL, I need to point out the fact that light bulbs do in fact need to be changed periodically. While I'm not as *educated* on the subject as previous posters, I would suggest the use of extended life bulbs, flourescent fixtures, or the new LED arrays that are all the rage with the youngsters.
The extended life bulbs pose less of a danger by extending the intervals the bulbs need to be changed.
Fourescent fixtures have the same advantage as above, however wihth the disadvantage of a limited spectrum crating unwanted hues in the room.
LED arrays are ust cool, 'nuff said.
I suppose mankind is resigned to change light bulbs forever.
